Located steps away from Seattle's beautiful Arboretum Park, Nishino has been serving traditional and innovative Japanese cuisine since 1995, when chef Tatsu Nishino first moved to Seattle. From classic Japanese fare such as udon and tempura to the freshest sushi and sashimi, Nishino's food is both authentic and soulful.
“A hidden gem - Nishino boasts excellent service and such kind chefs and owners! Definitely a little expensive compared to other sushi spots in the city but I can say I’ve never had fresher fish before. Omakase was a great deal as well. Great for a special occasion or date night.”
“Sushi was fantastic. Sashimi chefs choice was really good, but be prepared for sticker shock. Yellowtail hamachi was literally so good. Highly recommend. I’d eat an entire dinner of this if possible. Tempura oysters were not great. The tempura was too light to make the dish balanced- the oysters kept falling apart with the fry. Ambiance is definitely higher end- a great special occasion area (~100/person with apps drinks and sushi) Service was great too.”
“Pretty good. Quality fish. But takeout portions are very, very small. See my photo of three bite-sized pieces of spinach ($10), and pathetic Brussels. Willing to give it another chance, but will opt to dine-in next time with hope that the experience is better. Simply not high quality enough for three people to remain hungry after $200 (no drinks). On the fence about this place (mainly because I WANT to like it because it’s in the neighborhood). There are so many sushi spots in Seattle that nail the value/quality ratio. Remains to be seen if Nishino is one of them.”
“OK so I have a mixed opinion on this place. It's very cozy, the seating is a bit cramped since the restaurant isn't too large and I felt very intimate to the conversation of our neighboring table without wanting to. The service was good, the food was delicious, cocktails spot on, but definitely not worth the price we paid. I'm going to deduct the amount we spent on cocktails just to be fair, but for my fiance and myself it was around the ballpark of $240 before tip. I've never spent that much on a meal and was just sated with my hunger (I'm not a huge eater either) and didnt even have a doggy bag to take home with me to snack on later. The only thing we ordered that I didn't like was the fried soft shell crab as it was completely bland and tasteless. Will we be back? No. The food was very good but tiny portions for an astronomical price, the food was good, but not $240 good.”
“Dinner on Nov 3, 2025 We have been to Nishino several times over the years. Unfortunately, its charm has been diminishing. The items on the ‘specials’ sheet didn’t stand out (creativity wise) compared to other sushi restaurants. The nigiri pieces are excellent; we ordered multiple rounds. The roll is still disappointing; we will skip that in the future. I asked to sit at the sushi counter, though I learned they don’t have true omakase. I asked for recommendations, and the sushi chef suggested some. The clientele was very not-Asian during the most recent visit, which always feels like the universe is trying to tell me something. The service was kind and swift with water refills. The restaurant is neat and tidy though aging a bit. They have their own parking lot. The Food: O-Toro nigiri – 4.5 Stars Excellent. We ordered multiple. King Salmon nigiri – 4.5 Stars Good texture and good size on the rice Soy Marinated Bluefin Tuna nigiri – 5 Stars This was a recommended nigiri not on menu. Very good flavor. Definitely ask for this in the future. Aji (Japanese Jack Mackerel) nigiri – 4 Stars The sushi chef also recommended the Aji. I like it, not so much for hubby. Amaebi (Sweet shrimp) nigiri – 4 Stars Served with the heads fried, always a must Matsutake Dobinmushi, $19.50 – 5 Stars November is within the matsutake mushrooms season. This soup is divine. Maitake Mushroom Tempura, $9.50 – 1 Star I love a mushroom tempura, but these have too much batter and therefore greasy. Can’t taste the mushroom inside the batter, either. Disappointing. Madison Park Roll, $26 – 1 Star Menu: salmon, shrimp, crab, and egg crepe outside Their most expensive roll lacked flavor. The crab is ‘krab’. The salmon is minimal to potentially missing and replaced with tobiko, which is visible but not in menu description. Never ordering this again.”
