Retreat Gastropub is an American restaurant in the Central West End neighborhood of St. Louis.
“I was in St. Louis from Washington, DC visiting my friend Frank. This was the first time either of us went here. I ordered the Claassic Burger after seeing it on the menu and a photo of it online. Frank ordered it after seeing a waiter walk by and deliver it to a nearby table. This is how good it was: this was the first time Frank ate meat in about two years, and he loved every bite. He has zero regrets. I wouldn’t be surprised if he went back next week. Memories of that meal will stay with us. The service was also great. Our only small point of caution is that it can get quite loud. We were there at the same time on a Friday night as some college students who were obviously blowing off steam. It made it hard to comfortably hold a conversation. But if you go in knowing that, you can enjoy every bite.”
“My family and I really enjoyed our dinner here. Tip #1, get a reservation. Not a huge place. Of course, my philosophy is always if they offer reservations get one. The cocktail menu is cool. Try something new. We had the goat cheese/jam dip (added crudite), kale ceasar, kale ceasar with grilled shrimp, two steak frites with parmesan garlic fries (medium rare as God intended), the berry oreo cheesecake, and the skillet cookie. Everything was delicious and well portioned. My daughter loved her Shirley Temple. I need to go back to try the burgers. Our server was awesome. She obviously had a lot going on and we felt well taken care of. She even brought us a little lamp for our table. Finally, remember small places like these are gems. Sometimes they get loud, or seem a little tight, but the charm is what matters and this place has a lot of it.”
“This place feels a little expensive for what it is. Everything was well-seasoned and food was pretty good. Service was ok. They got busy in the middle of our meal and it got loud pretty quickly.”
“Food was excellent. Definitely delicious but a little expensive for drinks. Burgers we amazing but a little salty. Just made me drink more so not a huge issue. Definitely recommend but it will get expensive quickly.”
“Food was a mixed bag. Great burger and fries, chicken sandwich was bland and the cauliflower was barely warm.”
