Sullivans Fish Camp

“Went to Sullivan's tonight with no expectations and no knowledge about it. Boy did we make a great choice. Zach at the bar waited on us, answered all my history questions and made us feel like regulars. Being hushpuppie lovers we decided to try them as an appetizer. The chef, Jason, aka owner, personally delivered them and shared the secret that made them The Best Ever!!!. Yes, the best!!! Must try! We settled on the flounder sandwiches and thoroughly satisfied ourselves. If you are in the area, this is a must. These are true Carolina people.”

“I live in Charleston and eat seafood regularly, so I know what fresh shrimp and fish should taste like. The shrimp dish looked fine visually, but the shrimp had a very strange/off aftertaste that immediately made me uncomfortable continuing to eat it. When I brought it up politely, I was told the chef said it was “up to standards” and that they would not remove it from the bill, though I was welcome to order something else and pay for that instead. Trying to move past it after losing my appetite, I said that was fine and ordered the tacos instead. Halfway through eating them, the fish was cold as well. At that point, it became really frustrating, especially because both the server and manager came across as dismissive rather than trying to resolve the issue. The server was also noticeably passive aggressive throughout the interaction. What honestly shocked me most was that not once did anyone apologize or acknowledge the experience. No “I’m sorry,” no attempt to make things right just an overall lack of hospitality from start to finish. I completely understand that restaurants deal with difficult customers sometimes. I’ve worked in food and bev myself, and I’m usually very understanding. But this was not about trying to get free food. It was about expressing a legitimate concern over seafood quality and being treated dismissively for it. Mistakes happen, but the way this situation was handled made for a genuinely terrible experience. There are way too many great restaurants on Sullivan’s Island to spend your money somewhere that treats customers this way. Stay far away.”
