“Probably the best seafood don I’ve ever had. I got the salmon don and the torched salmon alongside the little quail egg was literally perfection. The quality of the fish itself was genuinely outstanding and deliciously buttery. I loved also that it came with a miso soup which had a delightful amount of little veggies inside. I thought the quality of the fish was outstanding for the price and my friend agreed. We were seated pretty quickly but I would recommend a reservation for peak hours. Overall a great experience!”

“Want to say thank you so much to the staff at Kingyo for the really great meal we had tonight, as well as for being so accommodating. We had a situation where we suddenly had to add people to our reservation right before we showed up, and the staff were so great about everything. Everyone that we interacted with was so kind and pleasant so I really want to highlight that! The food was delicious. I ordered the deluxe maguro kaisen don and my wife ordered the aburi kaisen don and we both really enjoyed our meals. So did everyone else in our large group - a few people in our group ordered the salmon lover don which was under $30 and they liked it. Will definitely be back again!”

“Highly recommend coming here as their sashimi and service are top tier!! The servers were highly attentive and explained each dish that was put in front of us. The sample platter was a fun experience as we got to try different textures and seasonings - I would recommend! In terms of food, we much preferred the sashimi over the savoury bowls (eel bowl and wagyu bowl). I think that’s due to us having too many savoury plates, everything tasted umami forward. So, next time, we’ll be getting a sashimi bowl and a savoury dish :)”

“If you’re looking for Japanese food in Toronto that goes beyond the usual offerings, this spot is a must-visit. Along with classic ramen, sushi, and sashimi, they feature some less common Japanese dishes that make the menu way more interesting. The vibe is casual with a quirky charm, and the space also includes a Japanese market where you can shop for prepared foods, frozen meals, packaged snacks, Japanese alcohol, beauty products, and more. It’s truly a one-stop Japanese food and grocery shop. The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming. I ordered the Salmon Lovers Kaisen Don, and the quality was outstanding - super fresh, beautifully presented, and so satisfying. My friends ordered sushi and loved it, and one of them got the Wagyu Beef Sizzling Hitsumabushi and was absolutely blown away by the presentation. For dessert, we shared the vegan matcha cheesecake and scoops of black sesame and taro ice cream - all delicious and not too sweet! Overall, we had a fantastic experience. Great food, great service, great variety. We’d definitely come back!”

“Came with my boyfriend on a recommedation, we had the Aburi Kaisen Don and the Sizziling Unagi Hitsumabushi. The quality of the fish was very high, every piece tasted fresh and clean. Aburi Kaisen Don: 7/10 I wasn't aware that this don was for torched sashimi only at first. Even though torched fish isn't my cup of tea, it was still amazing. Each piece had great mouthfeel and melted in my mouth. I would definitely come back to try them raw. Sizziling Unagi Hitsumabushi 9/10: This is hands down best eel I've ever had. The sauce on the eel was light enough to let the eel's flavour itself shine through which was a pleasant surprise. The cut itself was also thick enough to be able to savour the eel in one bite. IMO, the don is plenty flavourful without the broth, I think the broth overpowers some of the eel flavour that had been presented so well. It's a bit of a shame but I had wanted to try since it seemed like a unique eating experience.”
