“Went here with my best friend and we split one of the specials, a potatoe puff in a griddle and it was AMAZING! We also each got the blackened haddock tacos which were EXCELLENT. Victoria P is a queen and clocked that we were splitting by what we ordered AND she even split the cost of the appetizer for us. She was funny and attentive, what a great person! We loved you Victoria P and Montsweag!”
“Wow this place so far exceeded expectations from minute one. We came in with my elderly aunt and everyone was so attentive and helpful. The hostess was able to get us seated in the tavern area fairly quickly in spite of them being very busy. The atmosphere was very interesting and there were intricate chalk drawings on the walls. The noise level was quieter than I would expect in a pub atmosphere so we were able to chat. The food was incredible, the oysters were super fresh and my only suggestion is to serve these with fresh lemon. For an entree I had French onion soup and a toasted mini baguette and it was delicious. My husband had the chicken which was also delicious and my aunt had the fish and chips which she seemed very pleased with.”
“We had a very enjoyable dinner, though the fried chicken was too salty for our taste. But the mashed potatoes were great, and my salmon dish was fine. And the hot brownie dessert was fabulous! The waitstaff was super, too.”
“***update: I am editing my review a few weeks later- I should have done so sooner! The restaurant manager called my husband to apologize for our experience. They sent us a gift card in the mail so we can give them another chance. The customer service is greatly appreciated!! We look forwarding to coming back to use the gift card and give the restaurant another shot.*** Really disappointed in our experience at the Monstweag this afternoon on Mother’s Day. We made a reservation for 3pm. We left at 4:38 and our appetizer hadn’t even been started yet. We spoke to the waitress and after learning our app hadn’t been started, we requested the bill and left. We were told it would still be an hour before we got our appetizer and we had three very young extremely hungry children. The server was apologetic but we were not offered a concession, discount or anything (we had ordered 6 drinks at this point) for the extraordinarily long wait and lack of communication about it. I don’t normally expect anything like this but I was frankly blown away at the lack of communication or accommodation considering the circumstances - on Mother’s Day nonetheless! We’ve been to Monstweag several times in the past and always had a good experience. This was out of character for this restaurant and really disappointing. We left deciding where to try to get a pizza to try to get some food in the kids, knowing it would be too late to get a reservation anywhere else on Mother’s Day. I debated whether to write a review but I do think after an experience like this management should receive honest constructive feedback. It was a disappointing experience to say the least.”
“Very great restaurant on my way back to Boston! I love my lobster roll a lot, the raw oyster is nice as well. The risotto is little too creamy. Service is nice, the gentlemen is very familiar with the menu. The whole bill is little over budget, but really nice try!”
