Nestled in the heart of Hayes Valley, Dingles is a modern British gastropub where timeless pub charm meets classic white table cloth The menu, led by Michelin-trained chef George, highlights classic British fare with seasonal California ingredients: Sunday roasts, savory pies, and shareable plates crafted with care. The bar and wine list are curated by Anissa Dingle, including nods to London’s gin tradition, classic cocktails and carefully poured pints.
“From start to finish this experience was amazing. We tried so many of the delicious offerings, from the scotch egg to the chicken Kyiv. I was impressed more and more with each bite. The star of the show for me personally was the beer battered cod and chips: it was the crispiest, flakiest, freshest version of this dish I’ve ever had. This restaurant will now always be at the top of my list for every visit to SF!”
“Let me be very clear, dinner at Dingle's is not only an utter delight from start to finish, full of dishes that are both comforting and exquisitely detailed. It is also a special experience and an excellent value at a time when the economic realities of fine dining are rather dire. For around $200, my fiance and I enjoyed a pitch-perfect, three-course meal and drinks. Portion sizes were satisfying though not excessive, and we left without a single regret. The scotch egg was the best I've had. A humble pub staple is given tender attention. A perfect soft-boiled egg in a crisp, flavorful sausage hug. What's not to love? We could have eaten five. My fiance had the chicken kiev, a weeknight staple on his Midwest family table. Accompanied by a dill-laden caesar salad, the dish, which is all about contrasting textures, was a flawless execution. The beef and guinness pie was, well, also flawless. I cracked open the crust and stirred the bone marrow into the gravy as instructed. The bite was rich, unctuous, insanely savory. The little smear of mashed potatoes was a nice palette cleanser, but I could have done with a bit more on the plate. We ordered the braised cabbage as a side, and I"m very glad we did. A little acidic, a little sweet, tender down to the root end, it was a proper compliment to the entrees. For dessert, we did the sticky toffee pudding and the strawberry trifle. Again, no complaints whatsoever. My fiance said the trifle was the best dessert he'd had in a long time. Dingles atmosphere, with its low overhead lighting and warm, green walls really does evoke a refined pub-like vibe. This is a rare, accessible spot that will please both the meat and potatoes crowd and fine dining snobs like myself. A genuine gem that executes tried-and-true favorites with thoughtful creativity. Very rare in a city of status and pretense.”
“Frankly ridiculous. My son booked this for dinner this evening and we genuinely couldn’t name a better restaurant in San Francisco or frankly anywhere else with better food in the last 7 years. Anissa (front of house) and her husband (chef) run the place. They could not have been more welcoming. The food is absolutely off the charts and contains the elusive secret ingredient - perfect seasoning. Scotch egg, prawn cocktail and radicchio salad to start. The home made pie with marrow bone and chicken Kiev for entrees and ‘proper chips’. Every table - honestly - was drinking their perfect pints of Guinness. Service (Eddie) was wonderful and attentive whilst never intrusive. Blown away. My son has already made a preliminary booking for his firm’s summer event and Christmas party. Wow. Once again - wow.”
“Neighborhood gem! Perfectly upscale yet unpretentious. Clearly professional staff, and attentive without hovering. The fish and chips was perfectly authentic with malt vinegar, peas and curry on the side - one of the best in town alongside Hook and Woodlands. The burger was juicy and perfectly balanced (not dripping in cheese or oil) - probably the best non-smash burger I’ve had in SF. The crust of the beef pie was perfectly flaky. The sticky toffee was probably the best I’ve ever had and I’ve had many throughout the UK - 10/10. The beer selection was also on point - crafty and smooth. Think Absinth, but with better food and less stuffy - I’d choose this anytime. Good for a date though maybe not first. Tough parking. Smart casual.”
“Was very excited to try Dingles. Love English Pub food. The Fish and Chips were solid, the steak was very good. Unfortunately for us, many of the dishes that had stout or some sort of alcohol in them, seem to have a bitter finish, this included the Welsh Rarebit, and the Sticky Toffee Pudding. This could be us, we aren't drinkers. The bone marrow and Beef Pot Pie, was just a tad dry, the pastry was very good though. The Scotch Egg was very good as was the steak. The fries were just ok. The burger was good but on the small side. Service was very good. I spoke to the owner/host, very friendly, and nice. The restaurant is a little dark (clubby, it's a pub) but a nice vibe. We were in the corner next to a boisterous group so conversation was a bit difficult. We plan to go again, avoid some of the dishes that have stout (lol). I'm hoping to try their Sunday Roast, Beef Wellington and when they offer it, Chicken Pot Pie.”
