62 years of loyal customers can't be wrong. We are grateful to all of our customers, employees, and critics (...though we may not always agree!). The only way to find out the truth is with a visit. Oft imitated, never duplicated. Thank you in advance.
“An absolute must-visit! I don’t think I can say anything about House of Prime Rib that hasn’t already been said, but my oh my, this place is just excellent! The food was unbelievably good. We had the City Cut, and that prime rib was just incredible—perfectly cooked and melt-in-your-mouth tender. The mashed potatoes, the rich gravy, and the sourdough bread were all fantastic. A couple of things to know before you go: it is very busy and high-energy inside, so don’t expect a quiet, intimate dinner. There is a great bustle with the carving stations moving around, and they even spin the salad right at your table, which is a fun experience. Also, you absolutely must make reservations way ahead of time, or you won’t get a table. It is worth every bit of the hype. Highly, highly recommended!”
“I can see why this place has months long wait lists. My wife and I arrived at opening and managed to secure a table 15 min after sitting down by the bar. Just so you know the only main course option is prime rib. My wife wasn't too hungry but she ended up ordering the smallest prime rib which is a pretty large portion, she barely ate 1/2 of it. Is the place worth the hype .. yes! The prime rib, house salad, drinks and service makes this a standout restaurant.”
“Getting into this place is almost impossible — and now we understand why. Be ready for a long wait: around an hour on the waiting list and another 30 minutes at the bar if you’re lucky enough to get a table. But honestly? Totally worth it. The atmosphere feels like classic old-school San Francisco. The bartenders are amazing, super friendly, and the cocktails at the bar were excellent. And the meat… absolutely incredible. One of the best prime ribs we’ve had in the US trip so far. Yes — prices are definitely on the expensive side, but this place is more about the full experience than just dinner. Definitely worth visiting at least once while in San Francisco.”
“I have been hearing about this place for years and was finally able to get some reservations. It did not disappoint. The prime rib was amazing. The portions at quite large though. We all opted for the smaller portion (The English cut in the menu) and it was more than enough. The sides were incredible as well. You get a potato, Yorkshire pudding, salad and creamed spinach. The only choice you need to make is baked potato or mashed potato with gravy. I op-ed for mashed potato with gravy and it was fabulous. We all had martinis and the give you the whole shaker! After all that we shared a crème brûlée which I recommend as well. Even though a tad on the expensive side the portions are more than fair compared to the price. Our server was top notch and so friendly. I will definitely go back. I put no wait for table as we had reservations. I do not think you would get in without them. And lastly there is a fish option if someone in your party doesn’t eat meat. And finally you can also substitute creamed corn for creamed spinach even though it doesn’t seem to be an option on the menu.”
“Very courteous staff, we were a few minutes late but they were accommodating. I’m not a huge fan of prime rib but still enjoyed it. Sides were amazing including their salad and so were their desserts. Will definitely come back again (if I get the reservations lol)”
