Don and Rhonda Carano, natives of Reno, Nevada, and second generation Italian-Americans, founded Ferrari-Carano in 1981. Don and Rhonda were introduced to the beauty of Northern Sonoma County in 1979 while searching for wines to enhance the wine lists at the Eldorado, their hotel casino in Reno. They eventually purchased a 50-acre parcel in the Alexander Valley, and realizing the potential for the area, began to acquire additional vineyard land. Ground was broken for Ferrari-Carano Winery in Dry Creek Valley in 1985. The first wines bearing the Ferrari-Carano label were released in 1987. Those first wines were a 1986 Fumé Blanc and a 1985 Alexander Valley Chardonnay. Today, owned by Bill and Carol Foley since 2019, Ferrari-Carano still produces the Fumé Blanc and Chardonnay as well as over 20 other white and red wines. Ferrari-Carano’s 21 vineyards have earned California Sustainable Winegrowing Alliance (CSWA) certification, becoming a Certified California Sustainable Vineyard for their numerous efforts to preserve the land for future generations while producing memorable, sustainable wines of outstanding quality. Ferrari-Carano has always been a leading producer of world-class, nationally-acclaimed wines. Vintage after vintage, the wines exhibit a remarkable consistency of style and elegance. Ferrari-Carano’s uncompromising commitment to quality and excellence is a reflection of the desire to produce memorable wines that enhance the pleasures of gracious entertaining.
“O my gosh I have to brag on our server/ wine tour guide Danny. My sisters, mom and I came in for a girls trip and decided to make the drive out to Sonoma for a wine tour. Amazing service and experience. Danny was attentive, very informative and super sweet. He has great customer service, great recommendations and just went above and beyond for our day. The wines, cheese board and chocolates were so delicious. Couldn’t have asked for a better experience.”
“Such a beautiful place. The wine is outstanding, and the grounds are lovely. I was most impressed with Kristine, the manager. Wow, she went out of her way to make our visit memorable. We will be back for sure!!”
“Ferrari-Carano Vineyards & Winery Tucked away in the heart of Sonoma County, Ferrari-Carano might be one of the most underrated wine tasting destinations we’ve ever visited. From the moment we stepped onto the property, we were in awe. The grounds are stunning—meticulously designed and beautifully maintained, with views that rival any estate in Napa or Sonoma. Every corner felt like a perfect photo moment, but more importantly, it felt like a peaceful retreat. The staff was incredibly warm, knowledgeable, and passionate about their wines. We were welcomed with genuine hospitality and guided through our tasting with insight that made every pour more meaningful. It didn’t feel rushed or scripted—it felt like they truly loved what they do and where they do it. And the wines? Fantastic. Balanced, elegant, and memorable. From bold reds to crisp whites, everything we tried was impressive—and we’ve done our fair share of tastings across California. If you’re looking for a refined yet relaxed experience, make the time to visit Ferrari-Carano. It’s a hidden gem that deserves far more attention than it gets. We’ll definitely be returning—and bringing friends with us next time.”
“A disappointing end to our wine country day trip. We visited in January to celebrate my birthday. I was excited to see their beautiful grounds, but discovered upon arrival that part of their property was under construction meaning only one small garden was accessible and the remainder of their property was not. Of the four wines on their tasting flight, we only liked their zinfandel, and even that zinfandel was not as good as some we had tasted earlier that day. This is usually around the time of year where vineyards are being pruned and, as I recently learned, also a time when certain vineyards burn their prunings. Though not the winery's fault, the beautiful, sunny day we were expecting to enjoy on their patio was marred by the smoke from a vineyard down the road, who was burning their pruned vines.”
“After our second visit, I wanted to let everyone know this place treats their guests horribly. Very condescending people work their. Will take our business elsewhere definitely not returning.winery is absolutely breathtakingly beautiful. The grounds are spectacular. Excellent wine and service. Came here in May 2025 for a visit and loved it so much we came again the following day.”
