IL MITO - WAUWATOSA

“Visiting Milwaukee this weekend and this was my first time to IL MITO and was very pleased. Had Friday event reservations for party of four and went straight to our table. Only 6:30PM and was pretty full. Good and interesting menu selections. Pleasant staff. Water and bread quickly arrived with a well balanced saucer of olive oil, Parmesan, and a hint of garlic for dipping. The specials were also quite interesting which made the final selections pleasantly challenging. We selected appetizers of calamari and an order of bruschetta. My wife and I readily admit to being calamari snobs and this was as good as I have tasted. Our main dishes were the ravioli special (stuffed with spinach topped with shrimp, scallops, asparagus); a nice mushroom dish of Tortellini Funghi; one beautifully loaded Pizza Carne; and I had the Spaghetti Bolognese and really loved the meat sauce. Nothing but accolades for the food. For desert we had the classic tiramisu and the crème brûlée- both well made and presented. The wine list was good and the single glass prices are very reasonable. Comfortable seating, pleasant atmosphere, and street parking available. We look forward to coming back and exploring the menu. Definitely recommend!”

“We had such a wonderful experience at Il Mito celebrating my birthday a couple weekends ago. From the moment we walked in, everything felt warm and welcoming. The food and wine were fantastic. We are both big seafood fans, so the lobster ravioli with cream sauce and scallops special was an absolute standout (I love scallops, so this was a dream). I had the seafood linguini, which was just as delicious, and we also tried a sampling of the salads thanks to our server Jennifer’s recommendations. Jennifer was amazing. Great conversation, thoughtful suggestions, and she truly made the whole experience feel special. The entire staff was incredibly kind and attentive. We will definitely be back. Highly recommend!”

“The food was good, but not the best. The calamari is perfectly and lightly breaded and a salad was well dressed. I ordered a steak, medium rare. It was perfectly cooked, but the meat was chewy, which was really unfortunate. The flavors of the pasta and spinach were delightful. The creme brulee was perfect and can nearly push this all to a 5 star because I adored it. The tiramisu tasted amazing, but looked like it was plopped onto the plate and looked sad. The drinks were great, cocktails were well balanced. The service doesn't get 5 stars for a few reasons. It feels like everyone was a little confused. Our waiter seemed newer and spoke so quietly that I never was sure what he said. There seemed to be some anxiety in the other staff filling water, taking plates, and hosting. Perhaps if was a short staffed night, new management, or something to cause everyone to feel a little scattered.”

“We have been devoted customers of Il Mito dating back to their location on Virginia street. We have celebrated milestone bdays, weddings and more there. We love Chef Feker, love the quality of the food, and always felt welcome. It has always been our go to place to dine out when we want great food for a reasonable price in a charming environment. We have since moved away but I always look for a reason to go back. We visited for the first time in a year this past Friday. Suffice it to say, it felt different. The service was not great. That said, every restaurant can have an off night. If it were anywhere else we would likely not go back. But this is my favorite restaurant so I thought I would call the manager to discuss my experience. This is the first time I ever felt inclined to do so. She explained that she was short staffed. I get it. I worked in restaurants for years. But this is typically where a manager might step in to make sure the tables were getting what they needed. We weren't in a hurry but had no idea why everything was taking so long, why our waitress did not seem to be getting any help from the rest of the team, or why some of our food was not as hot as it should have been. The restaurant was not overly busy. No one was at the bar. The bartender was on her cell phone. During the call, the manager insinuated it was our fault for not saying anything earlier. This confirmed that the issue may represent a change in management philosophy. Our party was enjoying each others company and didn't want to ruin the night by sending things back or complaining. Besides, it was hard to get our server's attention and we weren't really sure if there was a manager on site. When we did inquire as to the delay to make sure we weren't forgotten, our server snapped at us. At the end of the dinner, one of the items we ordered was billed incorrectly so I inquired. Instead of saying "my apologies, let me fix that for you" she was downright rude and insuated that we should have known that she made the mistake before accepting the food served to us. In this case, there was no way to know this. In the end, she did correct the bill. I have no idea why she felt the need to blame a customer for her mistake over $3. If you want a great meal, Chef Feker's recipes can not be beat so I would still recommend giving them a try. My hope is that this was just an off night on the heels of a busy holiday season and that the manager might use the experience as a learning opportunity for the team.”

“This is my favorite Italian restaurant in the Milwaukee area. The food is outstanding. We ordered Bruschetta. I don't like tomatoes but I loved this dish. For dinner I had Scallopini with Spinach and Angel Hair pasta. It was cooked to perfection, the spinach was probably the best I ever had. The service was very good, but a little over the top. The server was great, but the hostess came over constantly to the point of being annoying. The atmosphere is nice, nothing too special other than the party / cooking class room, which is great. There was something that sounded like a cell phone ringing numerous times by the desk was loud and bothersome. I will definitely go here again. And again.”
