Originally, Ivar had plans to build a floating restaurant overlooking Lake Union, but after the City of Seattle rejected architect John Adam's design, he built an Adams-designed Indian longhouse on shore instead. In 1971, largely based on the interior of the Salmon House, the Seattle Historical Society gave Haglund and Adams its Award of Merit for historical contributions to Seattle. When you visit, you will find a beautiful cedar replica of a Northwest Native American Longhouse, complete with an open-pit Native American-style barbecue for preparing succulent alder-smoked dishes. Here, in a dining setting filled with Northwest native art, décor and historical photographs, you'll enjoy memorable meals surrounded by spectacular views of boats cruising Lake Union and Seattle’s skyline. Favorite daily entrees and fresh-sheet selections include alder-smoked salmon, prawns, alder-smoked chicken, and seasonal seafood specials.
“James provided fast and friendly service and was very on top of things like refilling drinks and offering updates about the timing of our food. We also appreciated that the menu had vegetarian options available for some of our party members. A great experience and beautiful atmosphere.”
“The raw oysters were small but incredibly creamy and rich—absolutely delicious. The salmon had a wonderful natural flavor with just the right amount of seasoning. I loved the atmosphere, which has that classic, nostalgic American diner feel. If the weather is nice, the outdoor seating along the water looks like a fantastic spot to enjoy a meal.”
“I went for a professional meeting and was reminded how gorgeous this place is. It's such a classic Seattle staple easy to pass over for something new and I'm so glad I saw the menu with new takes on classic meals. I got the salmon sampler platter but I saw the fig dish and it looked amazing too. Looking forward to planning a date night here.”
“From the take out window. Had the 4 piece haddock:2 regular, 2 Cajun, and the clam chowder. The haddock was small and the Cajun was weak. The fish was very hot when served. The fries were 'okay'. The clam chowder was very good.”
“Food and service were both subpar. I chose this place for the salmon sampler. While I've had all three varieties in the past, I thought I'd enjoy comparing them at the same time. I should've heeded the lower reviews and just went somewhere that gets it right. That said, it does have a great view of the Seattle skyline over the lake.”
