Kenbey Sushi

“I’ve been coming to Kenbey every week for the past couple months and it genuinely hasn’t missed once. The fish is the freshest I’ve had in the States since eating sushi in Japan, and I don’t say that casually. I always get the tuna and salmon specials because I truly can’t resist — the seared toro and the salmon with the yuzu truffle are the best bites of sushi I’ve ever had. Every single time. For my birthday I did the Omakase solo and sat at the bar, and watching the chef work was a work of art. Their classic miso soup was already my favorite, and then the crab miso came with the Omakase and I genuinely don’t know how I’m ever not going to order that now. The ice cream finished it off perfectly — denser than what you’re used to, almost mochi-like. The chef talked me into it and I’m so glad he did. The staff is warm and attentive in a way that actually feels natural, not performative. Kenbey is such an underrated hidden gem and I don’t know why more people aren’t talking about it. It’s my new neighborhood spot.”

“This is a true hidden gem. We have been enjoying the amazing food at Kenbey Sushi for a good 3 years now and it never disappoints. The sushi and sashimi are outstanding, made with high quality and extremely fresh fish, the palette is delicate yet flavorful. Please see the menu photos for the selection offered. I forgot to take pic of the beverage offerings but they are also plentiful - good quality sakes, Japanese beer, teas, etc. I will also need to update with sashimi dishes, as they were devoured before I got to take my phone out. Kenbey Sushi is located in an unassuming strip mall in Los Feliz, but the food is outstanding, the jazz music works perfectly in the minimalist environment, and the service is great. If you appreciate quality Japanese food, you won’t be disappointed.”

“The best sushi we’ve had since visiting Tokyo! Each bite is so fresh and melts in your mouth. The rice is just the right amount of savory. Even the ginger is great! Don’t skip the scallops, definitely may favorite bite that I save for last.”

“Kenbey is our new favourite sushi spot! We ordered the monthly special omakase and it was great. The fish portions were generous, the rice was perfectly cooked and seasoned. We loved the laid back atmosphere too. The service was very attentive and friendly. We will definitely be back!”

“Kenbey Sushi is the best sushi bar/restaurant in Los Angeles. Kenji and the entire team never compromise in quality. The style of sushi tends to lean traditional but there are modern aspects to many of the dishes that are added very, very tastefully. As for nigiri, I highly recommend trying the Toro Collar, Yellowtail, Red Snapper, Sea Perch, and torched Wagyu. For handrolls, I recommend the Blue Crab and the Toro with Pickled Radish. If you are interested in some of their appetizers and other dishes, I highly recommend the Ankimo (Monkfish liver - buttery and a little bit sweet, very fresh and seasoned perfectly everytime), the Spicy Tuna Crispy Rice (a modern classic), and the Lamb Chops (trust me). If you love very high quality food, exceptional service, and an overall beautiful dining experience, this has to be at the top of your list.”
