Poggio is a classic Italian trattoria with comfortable neighborhood charm and destination-caliber cuisine. Created by Larry Mindel, who also founded numerous other restaurants in the Bay Area and beyond, Poggio has been ranked among the very best Italian restaurants since it opened. Led by Executive Chef and Partner Ben Balesteri, Poggio’s daily changing menus use the best available local ingredients including dishes inspired by the seasonal bounty of our local farmers, ranchers and fishermen and the traditional methods of Italy, including wood-fired ovens, house made pastas and a wide variety of Northern Italian dishes serving guests breakfast, lunch, and dinner. We’re honored to have been awarded a Bib Gourmand distinction by the Michelin guide in 2017 and 2018 along with being named Best Italian restaurant in Marin County by Marin Magazine in 2025.
“We ordered halibut and pasta with shrimps, it was so delicious with cold prosseco. Nice place. The food was excellent, and the service was warm, attentive, and never intrusive. We felt genuinely welcomed and well taken care of throughout our visit.”
“Had a great time here today. Food (Aroncini, Pizza, Pollo, Grilled Artichoke) was terrific. Had a table for the 3 of us outside which was great since the weather was BEAUTIFUL! Our wait person was super nice and very attentive. It ain't a cheap place, but great value. I think the Aroncini was the star of our lunch. The pizza came from a wood-fired oven...and they nailed it. Could be our new favorite in Sauslito!”
“Pappardelle Pasta with Pork Ragu was excellent. The Grilled Octopus Salad was good but slightly tough but the seasoning was very good. The Garlic Flat bread went well with the meal along with the Rose Pinot Grigio from Sonoma. For desserts, the Tiramisu and Affogato really topped off this wonderful meal. The experience was made even better with our wonderful server Christie. Happy stomachs!!! 😋”
“It’s our second time in this place. Delicious food. Everything we’ve taken was wonderful. Only the chocolate praline in my taste is too sweet. But that’s ok. I can live without dessert. One thing I don’t like - plates. They were old and not as clean (in some places) as the service requires.”
“Poggio has a genuinely authentic Italian feel the moment you walk in. The layout leans traditional, with classic seating and a warm, old-world atmosphere that fits perfectly with Sausalito’s charm. The downtown boardwalk view is definitely a highlight - sitting by the windows overlooking the water adds a lot to the experience. Getting to the restroom upstairs going through the hotel with no direction, however, felt like solving a maze. Navigating the upper floors turned into a bit of an adventure on its own, not necessarily negative, but slightly confusing and unexpected. Food-wise, it was decent but not memorable. The pizza was okay, though slightly burned on the bottom, which affected both texture and flavor. Watch out for kids cheese pizza as it comes standard adult size one. For the price point, it felt a bit overpriced for what was delivered. The biggest drawback was the service. It was extremely delayed, and the wait between ordering and receiving food stretched far longer than it should have. Overall, it’s a pleasant, character-filled spot with a great location, but the execution didn’t quite match the setting. Three stars for strong atmosphere and views, average food, and service that needs improvement.”
