A refined, immersive dining experience in the heart of Wedgewood Houston, Momotaro Nashville showcases exceptional sushi, robata-grilled dishes, and thoughtfully crafted cocktails. Chef Partner Gene Kato brings his Japanese heritage into a modern context delivering bold, nuanced flavors that honor tradition from a modern viewpoint. Originally opened in Chicago over a decade ago, Momotaro’s design is rooted in Japanese mid-century modernism and “salaryman” culture, expressed through rich wood paneling, detailed millwork, and a signature stock exchange-style menu board anchoring the space. In Nashville, that foundation evolves through a lens of Japanese Americana—a cultural movement that reinterprets classic American style through a distinctly Japanese perspective. Throughout the space, the concept of otaku—an obsessive devotion to craft—comes to life in the rhythmic repetition of tile and wood, creating both visual texture and a sense of intentional separation between spaces.
“Overwhelmingly delicious food. We ate everything and loved every single bite. Sushi! Beef! Chicken! And believe it folks that burger on a homemade bao bun was a culinary rock star.”
“Nice experience! We sat at the sushi bar and it was excellent. The miso soup with the housemade tofu was phenomenal. Only negative aspects: 1. The music. Every single new restaurant in Nashville plays the same loud music with the heavy bass. I wish places would be more unique and play their own music that is softer and more enjoyable to listen to. It's as if you are in a night club. Definitely ruined the nice ambience. 2. I will give some grace because they are new but we waited so long for certain simple items and our server never checked in with us. However, the food was truly delicious. Hopefully they will change the music and the service will improve. If so, we will be back every week!”
“Had a great dinner here with a group and highly recommend ordering tapas-style so everyone can try a little bit of everything. The restaurant itself is gorgeous, upscale without feeling stuffy. One of the professional chefs in our group said it felt like a Michelin-star restaurant, and I can see why. It would make a fantastic date night spot! Our favorite dishes were the chef's seasonal selection! Also the Scallop Moyotako, which comes baked with four small scallops, and the Tako Kato, which was sliced incredibly thin and had so much flavor. The Miyazaki Wagyu was melt-in-your-mouth tender and absolutely worth the splurge. We also loved the robata items, especially the asparagus and shiitake mushrooms. The charcoal flavor really came through and made even the vegetables memorable. If they have the Hokkaido Hotate, order it. It's a rarity and was one of the most unique things we tried all night. And every cocktail at our table was a hit.Not a single miss. Overall, great food, great drinks, beautiful atmosphere, and a fun place to share dishes with friends. We'll definitely be back.”
“From the moment you walk in to leaving, you are thought of, served, and given such a fun dining experience. Everything is completely dialed in. The BOKA restaurant group lets the quality of the ingredients speak for themselves and layers the flavors perfectly. The music is fun and the space is absolutely amazing. Middleman is opening next door attached to Momotaro so I highly recommend planning to come 45 minutes before your reservation to grab a cocktail there first!”
“I found the meal that I had at Momotaro to be quite mid. It was nothing spectacular or noteworthy. My friend and I split the chicken meatballs, Chanfaun, salmon sushi roll and tuna crudo. She also got a cocktail. We went on their third day of being open. Perhaps there are some kinks to be worked out but I believe that this spot has potential.”
