Sammie’s is a little taste of old Italy in downtown Austin. It celebrates the great ‘red sauce’ institution—inspired by old school, legendary Italian-American restaurants. The menu offers classic dishes in a casual but sophisticated, retro-designed space that is both lively and comfortable, capturing the essence of a night out at your favorite neighborhood joint. The space consists of a central dining room overlooking Shoal Creek and 6th Street, polished wood bar, Mildred’s Room (a private dining/wine room), and wraparound patio dining area. Please note that patio seating is weather contingent. The menu offers riffs on standards including Housemade Mozzarella Sticks, Clams Casino, and Caesar Salad a la Tommy; timeless pastas like Spaghetti with Meatballs, and Linguine Vongole; and Sammie’s Classics: big portions of iconic plates like Chicken and Eggplant Parmigiana, Veal Marsala, and Baked Manicotti.
“We had a great night at Sammie’s Italian during SXSW hosting the Plantman and Blondie cast and crew dinner. The patio out front under the glowing neon sign gave the whole evening a timeless, classic Italian feel. The Caesar salad was fresh and loaded with parmesan, the mozzarella sticks were nostalgic and delicious, and the pasta dishes were rich and comforting. Dessert sealed the deal. Sammie’s really nails that old-school Italian restaurant vibe—great food, warm service, and a relaxed but lively atmosphere. It was the perfect spot to gather the crew after a big SXSW day.”
“Sammie’s feels like stepping into a classic, old-school Italian supper club in the best way. The pasta is rich and perfectly executed, the seafood is fresh, and the martinis just hit different here. The dim lighting and retro vibe make it ideal for a date night or celebratory dinner. Service is polished and attentive, which elevates the whole experience. It’s indulgent, a little glam, and absolutely worth it. Keep in mind it’s very noisy here 😉”
“We had such an amazing experience at Sammies. From the moment we walked in, everything was perfect. We started with the shrimp and calamari as appetizers both were incredibly fresh, perfectly cooked, and full of flavor. You could really taste the quality. For the main course, we had the truffle pasta and it was absolutely phenomenal. Creamy, rich, and beautifully balanced — easily one of the best pasta dishes we’ve had. Everything was spot on, from the food to the atmosphere. And a special thank you to our server Olcay and Hakan they were attentive, friendly, and made the whole experience even better. Thank you for such a wonderful evening. We’ll definitely be coming back!”
“We've been to Sammie's multiple times since moving to the Austin area 10 years ago. We keep coming back, so that should tell you all you need to know. Such a cozy atmosphere with immaculate vibes. Food is absolutely delicious. Elevated but not fussy. Service is always impeccable. I dream of the Malfadine. Best Caesar Salad in town. I still can't quite figure out the secret, but there's something magical happening.”
“We were really looking forward to this experience, especially since it’s so hard to get a reservation but unfortunately, it didn’t live up to the hype. We arrived about 15 minutes early for our 8:45 reservation and were seated quickly, which was a great start. However, once seated, the noise level was overwhelming. It was so loud that I could barely understand our waitress and unfortunately didn’t catch her name or most of what she said. We started with the mozzarella sticks, which were actually very good but at $18, definitely on the pricey side. For my entrée, I ordered the Lumache alla vodka. The sauce was delicious with a nice little kick, but the pasta itself was undercooked to the point that I couldn’t eat it. I ended up using my husband’s pasta just to enjoy the sauce. My husband ordered the chicken parmesan, which was decent, but nothing special especially for the price. The breading was soggy, and overall, we both agreed we’ve had much better for far less. I don’t usually send food back, but in this case, it would have been warranted. Our waitress did stop by briefly a couple of times, but the interactions were very rushed more of a quick pass through than a check in so there wasn’t a real opportunity to address the issue. Given the price point, I would have expected more attentive service. Overall, the experience didn’t justify the cost, and it was disappointing given the expectations. Unfortunately, we won’t be returning. We did receive free ice cream for my husband’s birthday which was much appreciated and a good way to make us feel better about the evening.”
