Tanta is dedicated to sharing the flavors and culture of Peru with Chicago, serving authentic Peruvian dishes and beverages in an approachable, fun and casual downtown setting. We provide service that is casual yet knowledgeable, genuine and attentive, utilizing locally sourced products and vendors that are sensitive to sustainable farming and fishing. Tanta has two Chef’s Tables that each seat up to 10 people. These tables are located in our main dining room in between our open kitchen and cebiche bar which allows you and your guests to experience our chefs creating Peruvian cuisine while you dine. The menu, created by Acurio and Tanta Chicago Chefs Jesus Delgado and Jose Cubas, takes diners on a voyage through Peru via its food. From the Pacific Ocean, through the Andes, to the desert, to the Amazon, Tanta celebrates the diverse landscape and ethnicities that make up Peru’s culture.
“Was very happy with the food, it was delicious! Great for sharing as we did among the four of us. Energetic atmosphere, nice bar on main level and great seating upstairs. Everything had such a variety of great flavors; lamb chops were tender, empanadas tender, the rice and seafood and steak with the shrimp omelette was awesome, same with chicken skewers. I thought the potatoes were dry but maybe that’s inline with Peruvian potatoes. Service was not the best but maybe he was overwhelmed, the service at the main level bar before we were seated was spot on. I will absolutely go back.”
“I honestly don’t have a single bad thing to say about this place. From the moment we walked in, everything was just right. We were welcomed by Camila, and she was hands down the best host I’ve ever had at any restaurant. She was genuinely warm, friendly, and made us feel welcome from the second we arrived. Once we were seated, Luis took care of us, and he was just as amazing. He gave great recommendations, checked on us throughout the meal without being overbearing, and you could tell he really cared about making sure we had a great experience. The restaurant itself has such a great vibe. The music was perfect, everything was spotless, and every single person we interacted with had such a positive attitude. Luis recommended the passion fruit pisco sour, and I’m so glad he did because it was incredible. We ordered a bunch of dishes to share, and every single one was outstanding. The salmon ceviche completely surprised me since I’d never had salmon ceviche before, but it ended up being one of my favorite dishes. The classic ceviche with the crispy calamari was just as good, and the seafood rice, almost like a risotto, was easily one of the best things I’ve eaten in a long time. We also had the pork belly baos and the beef empanadas, and honestly, everything that came to the table was fresh, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. This is one of those restaurants that already has me thinking about my next visit before I even left. The food, the service, the atmosphere, and the attention to detail were all 10/10. I’d come back again and again without thinking twice.”
“Snagged a reservation on the recommendation of a coworker who said it was her favorite restaurant in the city and I can see why. As a solo traveler, a variety of happy hour snacks was just perfect to get a taste of Peru without breaking the bank. It was tough to resist ordering the whole menu! Ceviche was a fresh pop of flavor in every bite and had me craving more. The empanadas were literally bursting with flavor! The Pisco Sour goes down VERY easy - the world's best lemonade! Loved the vibe on the rooftop on a summery evening. I'd come back in an instant”
“I am a regular at Tanta for a reason. The vibes are immaculate and the food is great! The staff is always so kind and attentive. If you want well-seasoned and flavorful food, go to Tanta! The drinks are tasty here too. Highly recommend no matter what time of day you’re looking to eat!”
“This is one of the best restaurants I have ever been to and the dishes I had here were one of the most amazing meals I have ever had. My boss recommended this restaurant and it is one of the only restaurants he comes to over and over again when he is in Chicago. If you are visiting Chicago, you have to go to Tata before you leave. I don’t know where else you can get Peruvian food like this but this place is a restaurant you do not want to miss visiting. You can’t go wrong with anything in the menu but I highly recommend the ceviche even if you do not like raw fish. The ambience and atmosphere is also so beautiful. For those looking for an instagram worthy restaurant, this is the place plus you get to enjoy really delicious food.”
