“This place is great! The food was delicious and the owners were very kind. I especially loved the facts on Indigenous/First Nations Peoples provided. The service was a little slow, but not too bad. Will definitely return again!”
“When you’re speeding along Broadway, you’ll easily miss this delightful little restaurant. Salmon n’ Bannock is Vancouver’s only indigenous restaurant, and it serves seriously good food. It’s cozy, charming and oh so friendly. It’s well worth a visit and I’ve attached photos of its exterior to help you find it. It has a distinctive black and red awning beside a blue pillar on the south side of Broadway. We’ve been a few times, but this was the first time for brunch. It was delicious! We had the Game Sausage Crumble and the Bennies on Bannock – with Spicy Elk sausage. The Bennies were served with a little bowl of berries that were so fresh and sweet, that arguably could be eaten first as an ‘amuse-bouche’ or after as a palate cleanser! The Bannock bread and jam were perfect! We really appreciate restaurants that serve bread along with the meal and the Bannock was fresh and the jam so tasty – unfortunately I forgot to ask what type of jam it was. Service was excellent. We’re definitely coming back and we recommend it highly.”
“We loved the food. The bannock was satisfyingly weighty, served warm with a creamy, smooth butter. The elk sausage was lightly but well seasoned, I think rosemary or some such herb was in there and was nicely offset by the sweetness of the berries. The salmon was soft and flaky (not dry) and complemented by the subtle earthy flavour of the rice. The vegetables were not just plate fodder, they were cooked perfectly al dente; slightly charred and delicious. The bison was tender, rich, and flavourful. The nicest, proper meal out in a while. Would recommend.”
“We had a wonderful experience here. The staff was attentive and very good at picking up on the little details. The food was delicious. We especially enjoyed the combinations with the bison, seasonal sausage, and fresh fish. The food was well seasoned without resorting to excessive levels of salt. The bannock was totally delicious and we wish we could eat more. The wine was well made, flavourful and worked well with thr land meat. Would totally go again.”
“Had dinner here and it was fantastic. Really incredible food. The bannock bread, maybe the best smelling bread we’ve had. Seriously good. The fried duck was perfectly seasoned, just tremendous. And the clam fritter was very unique. They’re doing great things with it. Main course was excellent. The bison ribs were spiced perfectly and the meat was so tender it just falls right off the bone. Dessert was the perfect finish. Great meal overall. We will absolutely be coming back for more. Highly recommend!”
