“Visited this place on a weeknight with no wait. Both friendly, attentive service and excellent food. The grilled pork was the perfect way to start the meal - the pork was succulent with the side sauce and veggies balancing the juiciness of the meat. The braised beef from the Panang curry melts in your mouth from how soft it is. My favorite of the evening was the steak and fried rice - the beef tallow that it’s fried in comes through in every bite and tastes even better with hot sauce. Servers were all welcoming and provided fantastic recommendations. I also had the opportunity to taste-test a drink in development: a durian mocktail/cocktail. It has a great balance of sweet, tart, and creamy flavors that is so unique. Def ask about it when you visit.”

The location might catch you off guard at first, especially coming off the freeway but once you’re in the area, the surrounding high-density condos make it feel much more inviting. From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted by walls showcasing years of Michelin recognition, setting the tone for what’s to come. “One of the best contemporary Thai places in SD! Their dishes are made with great technique and care that is evident in the taste of their dishes. One of our regular favorites are the the whole rock fish, Steak over beef tallow fried rice and the hat yai chicken. My new favorite that I've only tried tonight is the Braised Beef parang. I highly recommend this place if you're wanting to try elevated classic thai flavors.”

“We heard such great things about Sovereign, we had to go our first trip to San Diego! We had to wait a few minutes after our reservation to wait for the table to be free, but the staff was sweet and friendly. Highly recommend a reservation because the place gets BUSY. The inside seating isn’t super large but there is a large bar and outside heated seating as well. Our waiter, Sean, was fantastic- friendly, helpful, and attentive. He walked us through the menu and pointed out some fan favorites. Their dishes are meant to be shared, so portions are sizable. Definitely get a craft cocktail- they’re beautiful and as delicious as they look. We ordered the beef panang curry and the sizzling eggplant. The curry was exceptional. If it was acceptable to drink the sauce with a straw, I would have. Just a little note of heat. Perfect that it’s there, but not too much. The sizzling eggplant was amazing as well. The flavors, the textures. Highly recommend. For Thai food, it wasn’t crazy. It wasn’t extra. It was just downright good. Sovereign- thank you for an amazing meal.
