Baan Siam's menu leans heavily into regional Thai dishes not often found in the United States. The name Baan Siam translates into "House of Siam", which was the name of the old kingdom of Thailand. It reflects Chef P'Boom's commitment to serving traditional, authentic dishes they way they are cooked in Thailand. This is Thai food made the way Thai people eat it. You won't find Pad Thai or Drunken Noodles on our menu. Instead, we offer fiery curries, savory salads and dishes made from recipes passed down through the generations. With 16 beers on tap, a carefully selected wine menu and a craft cocktails that changes seasonally, or beverage program is designed to pair perfectly with Chef's expansive menu. Happy Hour is also available, at the bar only, from 5-7pm, Tuesday - Friday. Our entire staff look forward to welcoming you to Baan Siam.
“The food was truly delectable. Service was good, ambiance was on the romantic side although I went with a friend. The Khao Soi was especially delicious. The way they marinate the chicken and tenderize it til it practically falls off the bone—amazing. The flavor profile of the stirfried glass noodles was complex and delightful as well. Neither were particularly spicy to me, though.”
“I would highly recommend Baan Siam if you are looking for tasty and affordable Thai food. We got the green papaya salad and the Thai vermicelli in chili peanut sauce. I am a wimp with spicy food, so even though it says two hot peppers do not fear. It has a bit of a kick to it but it's really not that bad! The green papaya salad was a fantastic choice. The combination of flavors was a great way to kick off the meal, it was peanutty and sweet and oniony all at the same time. Our server was great, and happy to provide recommendations and information about the dishes we were interested in. I will definitely be coming back!”
“In the heart of Downtown DC, an unplanned stop for lunch turned out to be a delightful experience after our original choice was found to be closed. We enjoyed a serene and satisfying meal, with the culinary delights being noteworthy, and as they say — a clean plate stands as the ultimate review..”
“Solid Thai spot, with a diverse array of choices on the menu, a modest but interesting cocktail menu and modern decor. Service was good and food quality was good as well, if not remarkable. We had the Yum râak buua grôp goong yâang (Fried lotus root, grilled shrimp. peanuts, scallions, onion, cilantro, roasted cOconut flakes, chili paste) salad to start and it was an excellent mix of texture and flavor, great opening to the meal. For the mains, it was the Khao pad mun bpuu (Crab meat, Jasmine rice, crab paste, egg, scallions, chili, garlic) and the Pad pét núua (Beef, green beans, basil, green & red peppers, Central Thai chili paste). The crab fried rice didn't have enough crab flavor to make it memorable, and while the beef basil was good, it could have has a bit more kick in terms of spice and flavor. I had the Spiced & Spellbound cocktail (Aged Rum, Px Sherry, Chile Liqueur, Allspice Dram, Lime Juice Hanuman’s Leaf. Pandan Liqueur, Rum, Lemon) and it was quite good, well balanced a great blend of spice and sweet. Overall, very good, just the entrees could have been a little stronger but definitely more to try from the menu if I return.”
“Great Thai food in DC! The pumpkin stir-fry tastes just like Thailand, and the fried rice is excellent. Prices are a bit high, but the service is friendly and the restaurant has a nice atmosphere. Parking can be tricky, but overall worth the visit.”
