Tare is an intimate 12-seat Japanese omakase restaurant located north of the Domain in Austin, Texas. The multi-course omakase experience at Tare blends Tokyo-style sushi and Texas flavors into a unique tasting menu, selected and prepared by Head Chef Michael Carranza based on ingredient availability and seasonality.
“18 delightfully creative courses. Traditional technique mixed with Texan flair. So unique and tasty. Sushi master Dan put on quite the show for us. Absolutely worth it. Brings something to omakase that I’ve never experienced before.”
“Tare is THE hidden gem of Austin. It’s tucked away in a random office building, with a private parking lot (unlike a lot of trendy downtown spots where you’re driving around for 20 minutes fighting for your life). This is your traditional omakase with a bit of Mexican flare which is such a unique yet insanely delicious combo. The fish is absolutely amazing and just melts in your mouth. The chefs are extremely talented, chill guys and honestly just fun to hang out with. Being ex service industry ourselves, we had a great time chatting it up with them throughout our dinner. For the quality and sheer talent these guys bring, their prices are much more worth it than other omakases we’ve been to. This is our new special occasion spot and we hope they never leave because they are right down the road from us! ❤️”
“The omakase was in my top 3 culinary experiences in Austin. I dream of the O Toro and Hokkaido Scallop. The Chicharron Negi Toro & Tostada blew my mind & taste buds. The flavor combos were innovative & supremely tasty. Even if you've been to high end omakases in Austin, I doubt you've seen a blend of cultural flavors as you can experience here. The variety of flavors & techniques used to embellish certain dishes was impeccable. If I had to give a score, all dishes were at least an 8.5/10 or above. Some even reached a 9.5 or 10 in my mind. You would think that fusing the essences of such distinct cuisines can be jarring or strange, but the cohesion/balance of the flavors & textures were just right. The atmosphere was very laid back and the space was well sorted despite the nondescript location. It felt upscale but casual as all the patrons were chit chatting a bit. They had some good tunes playing in the back as well. You can tell the crew was enjoying themselves as well. Though the price is high as with any premium omakaze experience, it was 100% well worth the money. I do hope to come back in the near future.”
“I recently had the pleasure of dining at Tare on a date night, and it was an unforgettable experience. The sushi was without a doubt, the best I’ve ever had! Every piece was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. Head Chef Michael was absolutely incredible. His skill and passion for sushi was put on display with every dish. The attention to detail and quality of ingredients were top-notch. I can’t recommend Tare enough for anyone looking for an exceptional sushi experience. It was a night to remember, and I can’t wait to return!”
“Fish was fresh and amazing! Very good and thoughtful pre-planned, course. Atmosphere was really cool! You'd never expect a gem like this to be hiding in an unassuming office building. The only disappointment is that we left the experience a bit hungry, which is not something I want to walk away feeling given the prices.”
