Truchard Vineyards was established in 1974, when Tony and Jo Ann Truchard came to the Carneros region of the Napa Valley and purchased a 20 acre parcel of land. They transformed what was an abandoned prune orchard into a vineyard and began selling the fruit to a local winery. Through hard work and dedication they quickly developed a reputation as one of the outstanding vineyards in Carneros. Over the past 31 years the Truchard Estate Vineyard has grown to 400 acres, of which 270 acres are planted. The Truchards now sell grapes to more than 20 premiere Napa Valley wineries. The Truchard Estate Vineyard is a series of hills and valleys, which contain a variety of soils: clay, shale, sandstone, volcanic rock and ash. The various combinations of terrain, geology, and marine-moderated temperatures provide unique winegrowing conditions. Currently the vineyard grows 10 different grape varieties, making it one of the most diverse estate vineyards in California. In 1989, the Truchards began making wine for themselves using only their estate-grown fruit. An old barn on the property was converted into a winery. “We absolutely loved our experience at Truchard Vineyards. From the moment we arrived, it felt like we were at home. Everything about this place was special — the beautiful vineyard views, the adorable goats, the sweet cat wandering around, and even the little wooden house with Jesus inside that made the whole place feel so peaceful and personal. The wine was absolutely amazing, and we are already talking about filling our wine rack back home in Texas with Truchard wines. Every tasting felt thoughtful, welcoming, and unforgettable. Justin was incredible and truly made the experience unbelievable. He was warm, knowledgeable, genuine, and made us feel so comfortable the entire time. You can tell how much care and heart goes into this vineyard. This was easily one of the highlights of our trip, and we cannot wait to come back someday. “I just came here to say: 1) The wine is really special. You can taste the story that is so wonderfully detailed in your intro to Truchard. 2) Justin is the best! He really brings you into the family. He adds so much warmth to the experience and you will not regret meeting this gem of a human being! 3) There are animals. We were greeted by 2 really chill kids (goats) and a few cool cats that kept their distance while we were there. 4) I left with a positive opinion of the Truchard name and the excellent product they represent. “I can’t recommend this place enough! It was the best Napa experience we had. It was a fully private tour inside of the cave which made it feel very special and intimate experience. Justin was a fantastic host, he was super kind and happy to answer every single question we had. They are family / kid friendly! We all loved the experience (including a 17 y/o) The place itself is also gorgeous, great views, wine was lovely and you can waiver the cost of the tour by buying 3 bottles per person! Really worth it. Visit this place! You will love it, they deserve more love”
