“Sushi Yama Marketplace is a neighborhood gem! Even if the parking lot is full, there’s plenty of street parking, and the short walk is worth it. Inside, it’s a vibrant mini marketplace where you can buy fresh ingredients or enjoy their freshly made sushi and sashimi. The chefs are constantly preparing new rolls and cuts, and you can pick what you want from their glass display. They’ll slice it up fresh and fast. The store is spotless, with a great variety of snacks and hot foods. Their breaded chicken is a must try, especially with the secret spicy mayo sauce. The sashimi mix is always a hit, and the kimchi cucumber and spinach salad are my go to. Definitely one of my top spots for sashimi and sushi!”
“Absolutely amazing experience at Yama Sushi Marketplace! The quality of the fish is top-tier—everything tasted incredibly fresh, clean, and perfectly prepared. You can really tell they take pride in sourcing and handling their ingredients. The variety is also impressive, from classic sushi rolls to premium sashimi cuts, all beautifully presented. Prices are very reasonable for the quality you get, making it a great spot whether you’re grabbing a quick bite or picking up something special. Service was smooth and efficient, and the overall vibe is casual but well-organized. Definitely one of the best places for sushi in the area—I’ll be coming back often. Highly recommend!”
“Absolutely in love with this place! The food was so fresh and budget friendly, I really enjoyed my chirashi bowl. There's also plenty of pre-packaged sushi rolls/ sushi rice bowls to choose from. They were amazing”
“Yama is the best neighborhood spot for lunch! Sushi is fresh and delicious every day. I love the blue crab California roll but if they run out (which they do because they’re so busy because it’s so good!) then I get the other California roll with imitation crab, which is ALSO good! The vibes are excellent in here. There’s a wide array of sushi, nigiri and some gyoza. They also have a beautiful assortment of imported Japanese goods and fun drinks! I’ve never ordered at the counter, but you can do that too. Right at lunchtime it’s kind of hard to find a seat, but picking up sushi to go is a great idea. My brother and I love Yama!”
“Honestly priced. It’s better than Western grocery ready-to-go sushi, but I’ve had better ready-to-go sushi at Japanese grocery stores like Marukai or Mitsuwa. It was packed the two times I visited on weekends, so I believe the products were relatively fresh. I ordered their chirashi bowl (around $21) the first time and a small sushi set ($9) with a bowl of rice ($2) the second time. I know it's unfair to compare it to high-end sushi, but if you know the flavor of good sushi and rice, many of the cuts were tasteless, and the rice quality wasn’t great. If you're after salmon or rolls, maybe it's fine, but for cheap decent sushi, I'd rather go to Japanese grocery stores and buy their kits or some cuts to make at home. That said, I like the service, I like the options they offer (like sushi with shiso leaves, Saba, gobo snacks, etc) and it’s a good place for people who aren't picky about sushi or want to make it at home since they have all the supplies for a fun Japanese dinner including fish cuts. Also a lot of Japanese snacks.”
