Thirty minutes south of Portland, winding roads lead to a hilltop in Oregon’s Chehalem Mountains. With steeply pitched, dramatic panoramic views, Beckham Estate Vineyard is the culmination of the evolving vision and dedication of Andrew and Annedria Beckham. Upon moving in 2004 with the intent of building a ceramics studio, they became inspired by the local farming community and in 2005 began clearing and planting the property surrounding their home. While consciously leaving riparian zones for natural habitat and wildlife the Beckhams progressively expanded the vineyard to nearly half of their 34 acres including 6 grape varietals while also constructing a tasting room, winery, and fully functioning ceramics studio. We planted and farm Pinot Noir, Trousseau Noir, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Aligoté, and Gamay Noir. Beckham Estate is likely the only winery in the world where the production of the terra cotta vessels for fermenting and aging is on-site, and is integrated with the farming and production of the wines.
“We had a great time wine tasting at Beckham Estate. Will was a fantastic host, balanced being friendly and giving us space to enjoy the beautiful scenery and amazing wine. All of the wines were fantastic, if you haven't tried wines that were made in amphora, you should really give them a try, very unique! Everyone has different palates, but we loved the 2024 Pinot-Trousseau Gamay!”
“Don’t judge a book by its cover. After driving up a winding country road, you’re confronted with a chain-link fence with a small button on a post to open. On the other side is a one-story ranch-style home that has all the impression a family still living there. Greeted at the door was our wine host with an eclectic fashion sense. Awaiting us on the inside were wine glasses poured and an excellent charcuterie board I ordered in advance. Our tasting lasted roughly 90-minutes and included probably one of the most enriching wine conversations I’ve ever had with a winery host. Will also arranged another tasting elsewhere for an opening in our schedule. Yes, we left with wine. If you’re considering a visit, check out some of their YouTube videos regarding their clay urns, which they create and use in lieu of oak barrels. That’s what caught my attention. Perhaps I should subtract a star until they get a bigger gate button!”
“Our visit to Beckham Estate was unequivocally the highlight of our Willamette Valley wine tour. What made this a memorable experience was more than just the spectacular wines; it was the beautifully crafted amphora vessels, the breathtaking scenery, and most importantly, the people. Andrew’s dedication to his crafts and Will's exuberant, welcoming personality are what truly make this winery a rare gem. It is an absolute must-visit if you find yourself in the region for a tasting or get-away (they have a cottage for rent as well).”
“We visited Beckham on whim and arrived a day early… what was an unexpected visit for the vineyard, turned out to be our best stop of the day. Highly recommend this if you’re traveling through - it’s a must see with the best hospitality! We cannot wait to go back. Just opened a bottle of their Gamay in Philadelphia.”
“One of my top 3 wine tasting experiences. The tasting room is a cozy setting - reservations required ahead of time. We had the pleasure of meeting Andrew Beckham, owner & ceramic artist. He shared the family journey of how the estate came to be a ceramic studio & wine vineyard, and what inspired them to dedicate their skills towards organic and eco-consciously produced wine. Our visit ended with a tour of the large terracota vessels in the production area - highly recommended! The red wines are smooth and soft compared to other traditional red wines (probably due to the aging process). The whites are on the fruitier side, good for the warmer season.”
