“I visited J. Alexander’s, and if you’re not familiar with the Oak Brook area, just know this restaurant sits a little back in the cut. So make sure you’re paying close attention to your GPS when you’re heading there. The good news is it’s located in a mall area, so there’s plenty of parking, which makes it very convenient. The atmosphere is not overly upscale, but it definitely still gives fine dining energy. The low lighting creates a more intimate vibe, making it a great place for a date night, dinner with friends, or even a relaxed evening meal. The food is consistently good, and the drinks are always on point. This time I ordered the baby back ribs with mashed potatoes, and it was my first time trying that dish there. The ribs were fall-off-the-bone good, and the mashed potatoes were a perfect pairing. My friend ordered the pork chop, butterflied and cut open, and she said it was simply amazing. Now let me get to the real reason I keep coming back. The carrot cake. I have had carrot cake from big-name bakeries and small local mom-and-pop spots, and I’m telling you right now, J. Alexander’s has the best carrot cake in the world. If anyone wants to debate that, please let me know where I should go try another slice… or better yet, buy me one so we can compare! Because of that carrot cake alone, J. Alexander’s will always be in my Top 10. So yes, the food is good, the drinks are great, the atmosphere is nice…”
“Today’s visit to J Alexander was one to remember. Sam P. was incredibly kind and professional from the moment we walked in. The entire staff was professional from start to finish. Sam P. came to our table numerous times, refilling drinks, checking on us, and making sure we had everything we needed—including condiments and more. She is truly appreciated for making our experience such a great one.”
“Came to J Alexander’s with a party of six Had a wonderful experience the service was fantastic. Our server Jessica was fast and very accommodating. All of the food was really good. However, there was some temp control issues. A lot of the food came out warm or cold, but everything was delicious. We ordered a few appetizers, including the shrimp and the tuna. And then our entrée was the Hawaiian steak, which unfortunately we devoured before we was able to get a picture of it for dessert. We finished out with the Bundt cake and carrot cake. Both were really good but once again temp control issues outside of the temperature of the food everything was amazing Would definitely come back here again”
“Came in for lunch with my boss. Service was phenomenal. I believe her name was Alex. So attentive and was always anticipating our needs before we even had to ask. To start, we had a marinara and goat cheese dip with toasted bread. So good! The marinara sauce had a spicy kick to it, and the goat cheese took it to the next level. The little pieces of seared butter bread were the perfect boat for dipping. For the mains, we both got the steak burgers. They were good, but we were in agreement they lacked flavor. The Kiawah island dressing was nonexistent, so we asked for a side of aioli which helped. The side of shoestring fries were really good. Overall a great experience and look forward to coming back.”
“First timer, walked into restaurant with a wonderful greeting. The shrimp ane calamari appetizers were amazing. Did not enjoy my Entrée especially the Mac and cheese. It was too soupy. Asked for another one and the same type of soupy consistency was delivered. Dessert was meant to have a good presentation but toppled over before arriving at the table but was still served to me. Not too bad of an experience but assumed it'd be better”
