J. Alexander's San Antonio is an American restaurant in the San Antonio neighborhood of San Antonio.
“J. Alexander’s delivers a consistently polished dining experience, anchored by well-prepared, high-quality dishes and a refined yet approachable ambiance. The atmosphere strikes a comfortable balance—upscale without being pretentious—making it an easy choice for both casual dinners and more celebratory outings. The bar area adds another layer of versatility, offering guests the option to enjoy a meal while catching a game or live event. Service is warm and attentive, the kind that enhances the experience even when names fade from memory—though the hospitality itself is anything but forgettable. The menu is where the restaurant truly shines. The steaks are reliably flavorful and well-executed, while the Alexander salad with chicken is particularly satisfying, fresh, and thoughtfully composed. The mac and cheese stands out as a rich, indulgent favorite, and the chocolate cake provides a fitting finale—decadent, moist, and undeniably memorable.”
“What can i say other than wow! I came here off of a recommendation from My good Friend Rebecca! (She bartends here) Oh boy was she Spot On! If you love food cooked on a wood fire! Steak & Chicken done to a degree that should not be possible. Everything fresh and Absolutely on Point! You are in for a treat! Our Waitress ( Rebecca ) was super helpful and beyond professional! She offered us tons of delicious recommendations to try and explore! Their Deviled Eggs are literally out of this world and their bar selection is commendable. This was a Very worthwhile experience we will not soon forget! The Prime Rib and Chicken were absolutely superb and their Side Rice was an unexpected home run! 10 out of 10! I definitely recommend!”
“Thank you J Alexander for making my husband’s birthday dinner a memorable dining experience. He really enjoyed his burger and bonus, the cake was so delectable…probably the best carrot cake we’ve ever had! Please thank George for being such an awesome and attentive waiter. We appreciate the ambiance and the accommodations made for our special needs son. We look forward to returning and highly recommend if you haven’t patronized this restaurant, to do so soon.”
“I’d be remiss if I didn’t start this review by complimenting the service. We went in the evening during peak dinner hours, and Brennon did an amazing job. His explanation of the daily specials and his menu recommendations were very welcome, and he was absolutely on point with everything from refills to clearing used dishes (he said, and I quote, “that’s the last time I let you go dry tonight” after I finished my first cola rather quickly—and by God he meant it, as I had full glasses for the rest of the evening). An absolute treat for our first time visiting. As for the food, it was very good, though the appetizers and side dishes really stole the show for us. Definitely recommend the deviled eggs if you’re stuck on what to order, and the chilled orzo and wild rice would probably pair well with just about anything on the menu (it’s mixed with cranberries and greens and is just so good). Our entrees were the seared ahi tuna and steak burger, and both were very good! The tuna was served as two steaks, and the only real nitpick we could give was that one was more well done than the other. The steak burger was cooked excellently, though it could have used just a little more seasoning on the meat. We had the carrot cake for dessert, which was absolutely excellent. The frosting was not too sweet, and the cake was thick yet fluffy. Definitely suited for two people, and was honestly rich enough to split three ways. All in all, a very good experience at *maybe* just a little too high a price point. Everything felt about $5 too expensive for what it was, but the service totally makes it worth it!”
“We decided to give J Alexander’s another try after a while, since I was really craving Prime rib. For our appetizer, we ordered the Mexico spinach queso dip. It arrived quickly and was delicious. A solid start to the meal. Their salads were good as well. For our entrees, we both ordered the Prime rib, served with smashed potatoes. We also added a side of broccoli. I ordered medium doneness but it was more on the well side. The Prime rib itself wasn’t my favorite. It was a bit tough. The smashed potatoes were a bit gluey and not as appetizing. I feel like the quality of their food isn’t to our taste/palette but others may enjoy it. Give them a try for yourself. Our highlight was the queso and our server. He was super friendly and attentive. We really appreciated the quick and courteous service. As always our server was taken care of.”
