“This is our second time visiting. Great seafood restaurant, especially if you like oysters. The two buck shuck oysters were fresh and tasty. The yellowfin tuna tartare was full of flavor; the combination of buttered toast with the tuna and truffle was really satisfying. We also had a side of fries that was piping hot and sufficiently seasoned. We got seats at the bar. Ryan was attentive and friendly. Overall relaxing atmosphere. Our bill was roughly $40/person but if you are very hungry and/or enjoy alcoholic beverages expect to pay more. I recommend making a reservation. We went on a Thursday evening and the restaurant was packed.”
“One of the best restaurants in Oakland county, possibly the whole metro. Their seafood is the freshest you can find! They’re frequently rotating specials which makes it fun to frequent. I’m not the biggest fan of their grilled items, occasionally the lighter fluid smell clouds the taste of things, so I just avoid it, but being there for the seafood like crab dishes, it’s easy to avoid.”
“Well well well , my friend and I wanted a good lobster roll and this is where it came to get it from. We got there pretty late so we could not dine in but we were able to order out. We kept it simple and ordered lobster rolls (warm) and an order of peel & eat shrimp. At first the lobster roll looked a lil skimpy for 40 dollars, but looks were very deceiving, lol. THAT LOBSTER ROLL WAS SOOOOOOOOO GOOD! FILLED WITH GOOD LOBSTER MEAT NO FINS BC EWWW! BUTTERY AND WARM! The peel and eat shrimp were some of the best I have had, very delicious ! Overall it was a good experience. I wish we could of dined in, maybe next time!”
“Recently, my husband & I finally tried Voyager after having it on our list for many years. When I saw that they were having their annual Mid-Winter Lobster Boil, it sounded like fun and the perfect opportunity to check them out. We sat at the bar and had excellent service from the bartender. My husband had a new-to-him beer, which he enjoyed, and I tried the House Martini, which had saffron-infused gin, Strega and dill oil with a pickled onion. It was unique and enjoyable. Before our lobster boil arrived (we had a heads up that it would take 20 minutes), we ordered a bowl of chowder and hush puppies to split. These were my favorite part of the meal! Both were EXCELLENT! The chowder had light, crunchy, homemade croutons in the soup, and it was the perfect addition and the hush puppies were some of the best I've ever tasted. I will share one disappointment. The RESY page where they took the reservations/orders said: "We'll offer a small a la carte menu of coastal favorites & seasonal specials too (e.g. fried clams, shucked oysters, crispy fish sandwiches, etc.)." My husband was excited for the fried clams and talked about getting them several times leading up to our dinner, only to find out there were no fried clams offered. As a matter of fact, our request was met with a reaction that led me to believe that was never even a part of the plan. So why post that in the description? We enjoyed the lobster boil, but felt it was overpriced for what we got. We felt the other items we ordered off the menu were well worth the prices. Our overall impression is that this small, casual restaurant has quality seafood, side dishes and drinks. We will definitely return to try some other items off their regular menu (and get the chowder and hush puppies again!)”
“May I be brutally honest? The food at Voyager left a lot to be desired. To start with the positives, the ambiance, service, and drinks were excellent. My wife and I attended the Lobster Boil event, and while the cocktails were on the pricey side, they were expertly made and well worth it. The Caesar salad with anchovies was also a standout. Bright, fresh, and full of flavor. Unfortunately, the seafood boil itself was a major disappointment. The boil included a lobster, mussels, sausage, corn, potatoes, and a clam, and we also added snow crab. Visually, everything looked fantastic, but the execution fell short. The entire boil was drastically under-seasoned, and much of the seafood was overcooked. Even more surprising, it was served only lukewarm, which meant everything became cold very quickly. Ironically, the potatoes were the best-executed item in the boil. They were cooked properly and had a good texture, but it’s disappointing when the highlight of a seafood boil is the potatoes rather than the seafood itself. My biggest frustration, however, was that the portions did not match what was advertised on the menu. The menu stated the boil would include ½ pound of mussels, ½ pound of steamer clams, and ¼ pound of andouille sausage. What we actually received was nowhere close to that. There were only two small slices of sausage, a small handful of mussels that clearly amounted to far less than half a pound, and a single steamer clam. For the price, I expected much better execution and for the advertised portions to be honored. While I enjoyed the atmosphere, service, and drinks, the food simply didn’t justify the cost. Given the experience, I’d rather make my own seafood boil at home for a fraction of the price. I wanted to love this event, but between the lack of seasoning, overcooked seafood, lukewarm presentation, portion discrepancies, and bill of $300+, I don’t see myself returning anytime soon.”
