The Roxy JC is a New American restaurant in the Bergen-Lafayette neighborhood of Jersey City.
“Roxy deserves five stars. It brings a fresh and beautiful energy to the neighborhood. The food is delicious, the portions are generous, and every dish is flavorful and well prepared. It’s rare to find such a world-class experience in the area. The ambiance and friendly staff take the whole experience to the next level. My only small note is that they do not allow pets, and I would love to see them become a bit more pet-friendly. Overall, this is a gem you definitely should not miss.”
“Had a wonderful time here for my birthday yesterday! Service and food were excellent, especially this tuna tar-tare Roxy-style with whipped avocado and caviar. The management also went out of their way to make my night, which I really appreciate. The Roxy continues to be one of my favorite restaurants in town!”
“There are a lot of places in Jersey City that say they do steak. I’ve eaten at all of them. This is the one. The Roxy doesn’t shout. It doesn’t flex. It just quietly puts a perfect piece of beef in front of you and lets the work speak for itself. Deeply browned, unapologetically rich, cooked with confidence, not tricks. This is steak the way it’s supposed to be: honest, muscular, and deeply satisfying. The first bite snapped me straight back to Quebec City, to that meal Anthony Bourdain had that made him pause mid-sentence, the kind of steak that reminds you why people ever bothered to cook meat over fire in the first place. In No Reservations, standing in the cold, old stone heart of Quebec, he said something close to this: “Good food is very often, even most often, simple food.” That’s the soul of this place. I’ve eaten at that restaurant in Quebec City. I know that feeling, the quiet moment where the table disappears and all that’s left is you, the plate, and a deep sense of gratitude. The Roxy delivers that same experience, without pretension, without theater. Just respect for ingredients and for the person sitting in the chair. What really seals it, though, is how personal it feels. This isn’t a factory. They notice you. They mark the occasion. A handwritten note. A moment made intentional. Dinner here isn’t just served, it’s acknowledged. You leave feeling seen. If you care about steak, if you care about food that tells the truth, this is it. Best steak in Jersey City. Full stop. No noise. No bullshit. Just the real thing.”
“The Roxy was a solid spot with a few flaws! The cocktails were excellent, however the food fell short. The bartender was great, but the place was understaffed so we were left waiting a while to order food and more drinks. Could be awesome with some refinements!”
“Our server was really sweet and thorough in explaining to us questions we had about the menu. The aesthetics of The Roxy is warm, welcoming, modern, and provided a comfortable dining experience for diners both at the bar and at the table. The Ricotta Gnocchi came after about 15 minutes and was deliciously creamy, and cooked perfectly where it was both tender and provided a chewy texture which we found enjoyable. The portion was on the smaller side which we were informed by our server. It also looked very pretty as well! The duck breast and the faroe island salmon both came after another 20 minutes, which took quite a while since they weren't really that busy at the time. The duck breast was tender with a crispy skin that was paired deliciously with its cherry jus, so I highly recommend getting that! However, the salmon was overcooked and quite bland compared to the other two, which was quite disappointing and left us feeling hungry despite spending over 100 for 3 dishes. Although we enjoyed some of their selections, the high price tag did not really justify both the ricotta gnocchi appetizer-like portion, and the underwhelming and bland faroe island salmon. The Roxy has potential of being amazing, so I hope they take into consideration this review to continue to improve and change up their menu. Their menu is ever evolving, so they're definitely worth a visit if their updated menu appeals to you! Thank you for reading and best of luck! (:”
