A slice of the French countryside in LA, Marvin comes from the team behind Capo, in Santa Monica — Bruce Marder and his son, Max Marder, along with executive chef Ricardo Moreno. Inspired by Max's favorite restaurant in France, the menu utilizes fresh, local ingredients in dishes like ratatouille & goat cheese toast and steak frites; and the wine list is accessible, and impressive in scope. Wine & Spirits Magazine says, "you can go back a half-decade or more with Barthod and Raveneau, but also Puffeney (Arbois) and Montevertine (Tuscany) if you’re inclined."
“This is a great choice for a lively and delicious dinner. The menu was fairly classic with some French standards, French onion soup, etcetera, but there was definitely some California tweaks. The room was very busy and the tables close together but it had a very Lively neighborhood feel. If you want a quiet place for quiet conversation this is not your restaurant. Service was a little slow, but they were pretty busy. My only gripe, was that they automatically added 20% to tip our bill but didn't tell us- and we were a party of 2 not 10. My friend didn't catch it before she had already added an additional tip. So heads up there. But otherwise, will definitely return.”
“This restaurant is superb. Locals-style place with incredible service, a nice vibe, and the utmost tasty food. They were able to accommodate food allergies with precision and excellence. The chicken was extremely juicy and the Italian Chopped Salad was one of the best I’ve had. The dressing ratio was perfect. Great wine list. I’ll be back! Highly recommend the chicken and branzino.”
“Awesome little spot on Beverly, wasn't aware of this one at first and was brought by a friend. Really loved the atmosphere, it had a really laid back vibe matched with incredible food and wine. We had the bolognese and it was flawless. Definitely a pricey spot, would expect to spend $70-100 a person but for the right occasion it's a great choice.”
“Autograt warning!!! Do not make my mistake and double tip. They didn’t mention that they already include tip even in small parties and I was on autopilot and tipped an extra 20% on a meal where the servers forgot about us for a solid 40 minutes before we ordered. The lentil soup was fantastic, the rest… fine? Similarly the wine by the glass was nothing noteworthy, nothing offensive. Great ambiance, fun vibes, inoffensive food, but BEWARE AUTOGRAT. (Only reason I’m leaving this review)”
“Outstanding food. Too bad the service was standoffish. We were greeted by a not so friendly bartender, no host whatsoever. We couldn’t seat at “any tables that have more than 2 chairs”, despite the restaurant not being busy at all. Took forever to get a menu, and overall no communication from the staff. One could argue, not a lot of service for a restaurant that automatically adds a 20% service charge. To clarify, the charge is not the problem — the lack of service is. Once again, food was outstanding, would definitely order online if possible next time…”
