Sampa, by Chef Josh Espinosa, brings a bold take on contemporary Filipino-American cuisine by combining global culinary techniques and worldly flavors while paying homage to Los Angeles. After popping up all over Los Angeles last year, we’re thrilled to announce our DTLA residency. Located in the Arts District of DTLA, we offer a full-service restaurant dining experience with a full bar available onsite.
“As I told Chef Josh, “Filipino to Filipino, this is absolutely a place and food that WE can be proud of and you should be proud too!” We celebrated Mother’s Day early and decided to spend this evening at Sampa. From the beginning, we were welcomed home by the whole team and especially were taken care of by Earl (please trust his recommendations in everything!). I could not emphasize enough that Filipino food has a place in fine dining and Sampa delivers above and beyond the flavors we grew up loving and continue loving. The flavors provided the perfect blend of Filipino dishes we already love with the extra gourmet kiss. I could not be more proud and grateful for Sampa to introduce Filipino food to LA and the rest of the world. If you already love Filipino food or need a great introduction to it, please support and dine at this restaurant! You will feel at home and the team will make you feel special. You can feel and taste everything in how much Chef Josh puts love into his food and the stories he shared with us on his process of developing his dishes. Thank you Earl, Chef Josh, and the Sampa Team for giving us a Mother’s Day celebration we will never forget! We will be back!”
“The music, staff, and food were all so great. I meant to ask for the playlist but completely forgot. They played all the hits the entire time. Everything we ate and drank was delicious. If you’re in the mood to treat yourself, highly recommend the Skyflake Caviar. They had a special that night for coffee rubbed ribeye with black garlic puree and curry foam. The flavors worked shockingly so well together. Matthew was our server and really made our night. He was attentive and so kind. Answered all of our random questions. Would definitely come back to try other items on the menu when I’m back in town!”
“The moment we walked in were immediately greeted and welcomed by the hostess. The vibe on the restaurant was modern, chic reminded of a speakeasy. The service provided by the team and Erik our server was superb. We were taken care of and provided excellent recommendations for our starters, drinks and entrees. We started with Kare Kare tamales dressed with a tasty sauce that made want you want to lick the plate clean. We also went with the Eggplant that was lightly battered and dressed with a slices of green mango and tomatoes. Reminded me of my childhood side of tomatoes and onions to go with our meals. Our Entrees included the soft shelled crab eggs Benedict, lechon fried rice, longsog breakfast burrito, and chicken pandan waffles. All of which we devoured no left overs. Light, tasty entrees for brunch. We had room for desserts too - Calamansi Key Lime Pir, and Ube Cheesecake. We can’t wait to come back for dinner! Thank you Chef Josh and team for making our first experience at Sampa a memorable one for our family in celebrating Easter.”
“Loved my experience at Sampa in LA. They do an amazing job of creatively elevating Filipino food while still keeping the flavors familiar and comforting. Everything felt thoughtful but not overdone, and each dish had a fun, modern twist. One of the coolest parts was getting to meet the chef—you can really feel the passion and care behind the food. It’s awesome to see Filipino cuisine presented in such a fresh way. Definitely a spot I’d come back to and recommend to friends.”
“Highlights: The appetizers/ shareables are the strongest, with karekare tamales as the star of the night. The escargot was the weakest. Pancit with duck -inspired by an elevated take on lucky me toyomansi, the duck was cooked perfectly although the pandit was a huge salt bomb. It's the first time I've returned something to the kitchen. They were gracious enough to accommodate. Huge potential but sadly a no for me. Palabok - technically shrimp agnolotti. Very flavorful. Good vision. The Uber souffle was worth waiting for. Came here on a late night Coachella weekend knowing the dining scene will be a bit more quiet and relaxed. Enjoyed their 50% off wine bottle service. Their staff are knowledgeable and very helpful. Not in your face helpful which is much appreciated.”
