Restaurant Parapluie

“I've been fortunate enough to get to eat at some of the best restaurants around the world, and Parapluie is one of the best meals I've ever had. Everything was portioned just right, with every dish having well-balanced flavours, nothing too overpowering or muted. My favourite dish was the beef tartare, easily the best and most memorable beef tartare I've ever had. I was told they aged the beef for 2 weeks. Served with Jerusalem artichokes, crisped onions, and shavings of Comté, which brought a nice contrasting textures -- just the right amount to perfectly balance the raw beef. And yet it didn't feel too heavy nor light like I've had at most places. It was smooth, fresh tasting, and I could actually taste the beef (I find most beef tartares to be quite bland). The cocktails were delicious and very well made. I ordered both from the menu and allowed the bartender to create something of his choice based on a flavour profile I asked for -- a true mixologist. Service was friendly and attentive, and I was never made to feel less than for not being able to speak French. While the space has a very upscale feel, everything felt casual and approachable, which I always prefer. The tasting menu will leave you just the right amount of feeling full, and the ingredients are quality through and through. I hope to visit again the next time I'm in MTL!”

“We had a fantastic experience at Parapluie for dinner. We decided to sit at the bar and were glad we did, because it added to our experience. You feel like you’re at someone’s house, the ambiance is upscale but still cozy and the service is friendly and warm. We loved watching the team prepare food and made us excited to eat each course. We started with a cocktail (and mocktail) which were delicious. Then course, after course, everything was fresh and tasty. We tried most things on the menu, and each dish was a stand out, and had a nice story behind it, making it impossible to pick stand outs. The passion and care put into each dish by the team was evident. We live in the area so we can’t wait to return!”

I highly recommend sitting at the bar so you can watch the magic happen right in front of you, it’s incredible what they produce out of such a humble open kitchen. Every dish had its own identity and beauty, showcasing real skill and imagination. The menu rotates seasonally, which makes me even more excited to come back. We loved everything we ordered, but the trout was a standout, truly one of the best bites of food in Montreal.”
