“Wow. The pizza is possibly the best I’ve had. I’m usually a standard pizza person, sausage and onion is my fav. I decided to try half brisket and half street corn, they both blew me away. To my surprise I couldn’t stop eating street corn. The taste was a perfect blend of spice with the sweetness of the corn, finished with smoked paprika! The brisket was equally delicious. “Hands down best pizza place in New Haven!! I prefer bar pizza over other places. My regular is Mexican street corn pizza. The texture is amazing, crispy sides, juicy corn and zing from crushed takis. Each bite is a delight. The Herbivore pizza gives a fresh taste and calming feel.”

“Upon a cold day in New Haven, we found ourselves perambulating the grounds of Yale University, feigning scholarly purpose whilst, steadily succumbing to hunger. My partner, with admirable discernment, spoke of a local delicacy, apizza. Not merely pizza, but apizza, as though the omission of a single letter rendered it a matter of regional consequence and quiet pride. Thus intrigued, we set forth in pursuit and soon arrived at a curiously named establishment: BAR. BAR is an establishment of dual character, wherein the arts of brewing and cookery coexisted with evident harmony. Polished vessels of fermentation stood in dignified repose, as though silently supervising the proceedings. The apizza, styled Portrait of NH, upon its arrival, proved itself worthy of its reputation, thin of crust, judiciously charred, and possessed of a most commendable restraint. It did not overwhelm, nor did it seek to astonish; rather, it impressed through confidence and simplicity, which is, in truth, a rarer virtue. My partner declared her Bar Lychee Martini, was quite good, as she is very fond of lychee and elderflower, no small praise, I assure you, and evidence that the establishment’s talents were not confined solely to the oven. As for myself, I selected a Zombie Slayer, an 8% libation whose name alone suggested both intent and consequence. It proved a rather heavy-handed companion for the weather, fortifying, warming, and perhaps precisely what the cold demanded. Thus we dined, and conversed, and gradually thawed from the day’s chill. It was, in sum, a luncheon of the finest sort, restorative, and accompanied by that most essential ingredient: great company, which, unlike apizza, requires no regional distinction to be appreciated.”

“The pizza is definitely NOT traditional CT. We had a half Mexican street corn & half mashed potatoes & Bacon; totally amazing! The traditional pizza looked equally as delicious. The atmosphere, hosts, chefs, bartender were just top notch. I love sharing my CT roots with my OK bride. What a treat, highly recommend BAR pizza!”

“I placed the order for three large pizzas as I was getting in my car. I live 15 minutes away, the gentleman said 25 minutes by the time I picked up the pizza it was already cold. I ordered the mashed potato bacon pizza. Not only was the Pizza salty , but the bacon was overcooked. The last time I was there we ate in and the pizza was delicious so I’m not sure if takeout is different but it sure was this time. $114 later that also Included tip. What a disappointment.”
