The American Sector is a nostalgic cafe inside the National World War II Museum in New Orleans' CBD, offering upscale versions of classic American and Southern dishes like shrimp po' boys, gumbo, and shrimp and grits. It serves cocktails, is good for groups and families, and is open daytime hours for lunch. Reviewers praise the food, drinks, and light-filled, comfortable atmosphere.
“10/10, perfect score all the way around! There is so much to see at the museum, you'll want to be there from opening until closing, trust me. And when you need to sit for a bit and replenish your energy reserves, this is the place to do it! Great food and friendly staff in an enchanting atmosphere. The portions are good-sized (even the starters could be a meal in of themselves). The shrimp Po' Boy was a bit messy to eat, but that because it was so full (first world problems, eh?)! Forgot to take pictures of the cookies we had for dessert, but they were the perfect way to cap off a fabulous dining experience.”
“We ate lunch at the American Sector restaurant in building 2 of the WWII Museum. We started with an old fashioned and a Bloody Mary. The old fashioned was very smooth and good. The Bloody Mary was one of the best I’ve ever had with their homemade mix and horseradish! It had just the right amount of kick! For appetizers we ordered a cup of the flavorful gumbo. Then for the entrees we ordered the perfectly cooked shrimp and tender, creamy grits with very good gravy! Everything was absolutely delicious!”
“We had lunch here while visiting the museum. Great food! The soup of the day was amazing and the shrimp and grits were very good too. I love a good lemon meringue pie and it's really well done here”
“We stopped by here for lunch because it's in the museum and has decent reviews. You can also enter from the street on the Magazine St. & Poeyfarre St. Side. I stepped away from Southern fare for a moment and had a fried chicken sandwich with French fries. My son enjoyed a shrimp po' boy. Both were good and served promptly. Lots of natural light with minimal noise. Low-top, booth, and bar seating. Comfortable seats and very clean. In fact, we saw the staff cleaning the tables with a spray as soon as a guest left. Excellent service. It was a lovely lunch break, so we could resume touring the museum.”
“Atmosphere was good. Seems to definitely push bar drinks more than food. More help at bar for a few customers than on floor with people trying to eat. Our waiter was all over the place. I won't say he was slow but did have to much square footage to cover well. Price vs portions were lacking. Food was good. Person running food was disruptive basically attacking table instead of approaching. Coming back soon to museum for 2nd trip and finish tour. We will definitely eat before arriving and on way home.”
