In 1931, Georgia O'Keeffe created a painting called "Cow's Skull with Calico Roses". It represented the stark elegance of life as she experienced it through her years in the New Mexican alpine desert. Bar Calico takes its name from this painting, and its flavors from the bold and arid landscapes she was immersed in. Opened by Authentic Hospitality in November 2021, guests are invited to enjoy Head Bartender Alex Dominguez & Team's custom specialty cocktails in an intimate candlelit room, surrounded by touchstones of Ms. O’Keeffe’s artistic vision. Named to Food and Wine's 2024 Top 15 Hotel Bars in the US, Bar Calico specializes in the northern Mexican spirit sotol, offering flights from handpicked producers. There is also a Small Bites menu of tacos, tostadas, croquettas and the Brazilian cheese bread pao de queijo. Every Thursday Bar Calico hosts "In Residence", a weekly DJ series from 9pm - 1am. Make a reservation or walk in.
“This bar has some very unique and delicious cocktails! I love the Latin inspiration they have in many of the cocktails. My first drink was the City Oasis that was really nice and a bit smoky from the Sotol(which was my first time trying this alcohol). Second I tried The Shelton, which was probably my favorite of the night. It had Gin in a Watercress/apple soda with a bergamot liquor and Mexican Sake. Super fresh and dangerously smooth. Lastly I tried the Machu Picchu which is a sour using Pisco, Midori, and Aloe Vera. Very nice drink as well. Everything was balanced perfectly. Shout out to the bartenders here too, very friendly, attentive, and fast.”
“What a find!!! This bar was so cute, intimate, and comfortable, while serving amazing signature cocktails with great service. Location, ambience, even noise level were all perfection. I’ll definitely be returning again! Highly recommend the drinks with egg white in them - so delicious and refreshing, while unique and unforgettable. 5 stars all around.”
“Came here for drinks early on a Friday evening and found it almost completely empty. The space is small, but is comfortable and has a cool vibe. We enjoyed all the cocktails we tried, and the service was friendly. I especially enjoyed my corn whiskey cocktail. When we left around 6:30, there was only one other group present. This is a good spot to stop in for a well-made cocktail in a hotel bar that feels a bit more comfortable than the typical option.”
“Worst bar service in NYC I’ve experienced to be honest. Came in with a friend to the bar, checked out the menu, they didn’t have anything that interested us immediately + we wanted something from the kitchen but they said it was closed. No indications of kitchen closing time on the menu. Also no espresso at a bar??? Since they didn’t have what we wanted we said we’d sit down for a second to regroup and decide on something. About 5 minutes later some lady is hovering over us, walking around us in circles, and then tells us to leave because the area is for service only. Didn’t bother to ask us if we wanted to order something or help us figure out something off their menu we’d like, just straight up assumed we weren’t going to get anything and basically communicated “get out”. After that, I didn’t even want to buy anything from employees/management with that inhospitable attitude. If you want to sell, that’s not how you do it.”
“Beautiful place, the staff is EXTREMELY RUDE though... weird vibes all around... too expensive for me to spend my money here will find other places to imbibe and hang with friends”
