Bird Dog is a southern restaurant focusing on hand made pasta. Located in the heart of the West Village in NYC, we are a small and intimate restaurant that is great for everyday and special occasions. We are an intimate space that offers 3 menu choices: Chef’s Tasting Menu which is family style (all parties 5 or more are required to get the Chef’s Tasting Menu), a 3 course Pre Fixe which you choose one dish from each section of our menu, or Fried Chicken Dinner. These are our only other menu offerings, reservations are strongly encouraged. We do not offer “a la carte,” unless it is for Pasta Happy Hour which is Walk In only, reservations are not accepted. We're on a mission to change the culture of restaurants for the better. Our team is made up of experts and artisans, dedicated to their craft — and they deserve to be paid a fair wage, to have access to health care, to mental health professionals, and continuing education. Our business model has those things baked in, because now more than ever, restaurant jobs should be good jobs. Every meal you order from us helps make that possible.
“First time trying the pasta happy hour, and it was like being invited into someone's home. The service was friendly and warm; and the food was delicious. We ordered the pappardelle with bolognese, and campanelle with blue crab. At regular price, they're a bit expensive; but pasta happy hour is a steal and totally worth it. We liked both pastas equally. I'm not big on dining out with pasta because they generally all taste the same and are overpriced; but the pastas here were uniquely flavored, and we'll definitely be back.”
“Visited here with my 2 gfs and had an incredible time! We came during pasta happy hour and shared the pimento cheese, tagliatelle, the bolognese, and the fried chicken. It was the perfect order and everything was SO GOOD! Antonie was such a fun server and gave great recommendations. 10/10 would recommend!”
“For context, I live in the south and have dined in the gulf coast US The ambiance is quaint and intimate without taking itself too seriously which I enjoyed. The menu is a prefixe or chefs selection which was also was a welcome to explore a lot of the items on the menu. Portions were pretty significant for two and will leave you feeling plenty full. I had the hush puppies, Campanella, gnocchi, steak, and fried chicken. All were very good - the rock stars were the fried chicken and Campanelle. Both absolute 10/10 fantastic. The hush puppies were nice and crisp but a bit bland and dry, and the gnocchi was also a bit bland. The steak was very tender, fire grilled, and nicely seasoned, but not sure it was worth the $30 markup over other entrees. Staff was extremely friendly and helpful, though at a rush period service times were extended so plan on a good ~2hrs. Overall would visit again for the atmosphere, and to try some other stuff.”
“Wow the fried chicken saved my life for sure. This was a great experience. Our waitress was so helpful in deciding our entrees and pairing a wine with them as well. We got the fried chicken which is an absolute must. Okay I lied we got TWO fried chickens. We also got their hush puppies (honey butter was divine) burrata and the pimento cheese. All fantastic choices! I will say we enjoyed the pasta but it was a tiny earthy for my taste. However the vibes made up for it all. Perfect cozy meal with good friends!”
“Went for dinner on a Saturday and was lucky to arrive just in time for the end of happy hour. Everything we tried was good- Anthony was so hospitable, funny and attentive. Would definitely recommend and will be returning. Hopefully one day our pips will make the wall of fame ❣️”
