Serving eclectic, Greek-style cuisine, Elia is the only Zagat and Michelin-rated restaurant in Bay Ridge. A neighborhood favorite for over 20 years, the restaurant was opened by husband and wife team Pete and Christina Lekkas in 1987, with chef Ivan Martinez joining the team in 1994. Dishes like grilled octopus and grilled whole fish are served in the Greek Isles-inspired space, complete with white-washed walls, blue accents, and barreled ceilings.
“Surprised reading some of these reviews - had dinner there tonight and as soon as we entered, we were greeted and seated right away. As menus were given to us, diners were saying their farewells to Nick, who all knew him by name. He then proceeded to provide great service all night with the rest of the crew. Food came out promptly, tables were reset immediately, everyone checked in frequently, and they even unnecessarily apologized for food coming out just slightly later than the other dishes. Exceptional service. Last but certainly not least, the food was delicious - highly recommend the octopus, grilled branzino, chicken, and lamb chops. Will be back to try more. Bravo!”
“Such a cute place with delicious food and drinks! The grilled octopus and different spreads were amazing, 10/10 would recommend. Their fig martini is DELICIOUS. Will definitely be coming back!”
“We were there on Valentines day. Great taste for everything we ordered. But it was cold to sit next to the door especially we had a baby dinning with us.”
“Do not sleep on Elia!! This restaurant is one of my new favorites and is such a great neighborhood spot! We went super early on a weeknight so it wasn’t crowded at all. The atmosphere is like a Greek taverna with a little fireplace which is a great touch. The food was the highlight here: the salad (which normally I would not highlight but was truly incredible) was so good that I’ve been making a version of it at home, the octopus was perfectly cooked and the red pepper feta dip was absolutely addictive with the fresh pita bread. The mousakka was solid. Go here immediately and get all the dips and all the apps!!”
“Disappointing from start to finish!!! I had high hopes for Ellie, but this was an incredibly disappointing experience from the moment we sat down. Every aspect of the night—the food, the staff, and the kitchen's management—fell completely short. The service was painfully inattentive and dismissive. We had to flag down multiple servers just to get water, and when we asked questions about the menu, the staff seemed completely bothered and untrained. The kitchen management was a total mess. Our table's entrees came out at completely different times—one of us was finished eating before the other person’s plate even arrived. Waiting that long for a meal is unacceptable. When the food finally did arrive, it wasn't even worth the wait. It was poorly prepared, lacked flavor, and tasted like it had been sitting under a heat lamp while the kitchen struggled to get the rest of the order together. To top it all off, they couldn't even give us our correct change because they claimed they had no cash on hand, and ridiculously asked us to issue them an invoice so they could *maybe* pay us back by check. For the prices they charge, you expect a basic level of quality and professionalism. Ellie failed on all fronts. Save your money and go somewhere that actually respects its customers.”
