“I’m very pleased with the inventive new menu at Gen! The smaller dishes — you could call them Japanese tapas — are creative and delicious. The Mini Ochazuke bowl features small pieces of sushi fish over rice and is a great value. The Crab Bomber is a delightful pairing of warm, crunchy rice and the rich taste of crab. Another standout is the Seafood Salad — a fresh mix of sushi and greens with a Japanese toasted sesame vinaigrette that complements the fish perfectly. Usually, I reach for soy sauce, but this was a refreshing twist on an old favorite.”
“This is my daughter’s favorite spot for Japanese food in Brooklyn. The food here is consistent. We have been coming to Gen for over 10 years but I just decided to take photos for a review now. If you look for a spot for a Japanese brunch on the weekends, give them a try!”
“Our server was incredibly nice. She’s so nice that I felt like I should finish my food because I don’t wanna make her feel bad. But the food was.. we ordered 5 rolls, some of them had SO much rice and all of them are falling apart, rice was very salty and dry, I want to dip it in the soy sauce but that would just make the saltiness overpower everything, so we ate it without the soy sauce, which made the rolls tasted very bland (but salty still…) there were barely any fish in the rolls and they rolls are so unevenly rolled. I am someone that would buy supermarket sushi just to crunch the thirst sometimes, and I didn’t finish my food. Pretty pricy too for the quality It felt like the chef’s first week behind a kitchen sorry. again, best waiter ever”
“It isn’t complicated to put fish on a plate and bring it to the table, but for the second time in a row, Gen somehow made it seem like quantum physics. Both times the restaurant was less than half full, I waited 45 minutes and watched some other tables that arrived after me get their food, then asked what was holding it up, waited another ten minutes to be told it was coming soon. The first time this happened I just left after an hour. The second time, my experience was ruined because I had to take it to go. To top it off, it was average at BEST. There are 5-10 far better sushi restaurants within 5 blocks of Gen. Just go to any of those instead. Gen has fallen off completely.”
“They are extremely slow. I ordered through DoorDash, and it seemed like they had received the order well in advance; however, when I arrived to pick it up, it wasn't ready yet. It didn't even look like they were busy there were only two tables seated, and that was it. The place had only two occupied tables—you could practically call it half empty yet I waited nearly 55 minutes for my order. It was terrible. If you can't handle online orders, you'd be better off just disabling your online delivery service so people don't have to wait outside for such an incredibly long time!!!!!!👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻 🪰 The absolute worst place in this neighborhood—and in all of Brooklyn. Your staff move like they’re half-asleep! Especially the cooks—though they aren't actually cooks; they're just students learning how to cook!
