GupShup, meaning "Chit-Chat or hanging out" is a commonly used slang in the South Asian dialect. It's "not your average" modern Indian hangout, and our focus has been to marry Indian flavors with a modern twist. The bi-level space is an ode to 1970's Bombay mansion with brass, gold, wood and antique mirrors and chandeliers through out both floors, with household belongings through out the space. GupShup aims to bring a piece of romance and nostalgia from Bombay to the Big Apple. GupShup has been recognized by the New York Times, Infatuation, Thrillist, Forbes, Conde Nast, Time Out magazine, Fortune, GrubStreet, Town & Country to name a few, and Eater has named GupShup one of the hottest new restaurants for past 10 consecutive months since it has opened, and Alphasixty calls it a ”smorgasbord for the stomach, and the eyes.”
“Had a great experience at GupShup! The food was absolutely amazing—everything was flavorful, fresh, and well-prepared. The staff was incredibly friendly, welcoming, and accommodating throughout our visit. Service was also very fast, which made the experience even better. Highly recommend for anyone looking for delicious Indian food and excellent hospitality. Looking forward to coming back! 😊”
“Absolutely loved the food here! The Indian dishes were full of authentic flavor with so many varieties to choose from. Every item we tried tasted fresh, rich, and perfectly prepared. From appetizers to curries and breads, everything had amazing taste and presentation. The ambiance and hospitality made the experience even better. Definitely a great place for anyone who enjoys quality Indian cuisine! Cost is it little higher side-”
“We were there for our 32nd wedding anniversary, along with my niece. Had a wonderful time, appetizers were Dahi ke Kabab, King Prawn and Nalli Nihari (an experience in itself!!). We also had Mutton Sukha , and the Branzino - an exquisite dish with Butter Naan. The restaurant complimented our anniversary with Gulab Jamun and Licchi Ras Malai. We had Kulfi Falooda as the ordered dessert. Service is good, food preparations very thoughtful. Update - our server was Rehmat , very engaging and polite. He recommended most of the dishes we had , very highly recommended. Look for him when you visit.”
“This was my first Indian dining experience in New York. I loved the place and it was quite busy. Get reservation if you plan to go there. I ordered a cocktail which was great. Mutton sukha was out of the world. The flavors were on point. It’s a bit spicy so beware when you try. Next I ordered chicken kebab which was a disappointment. To make it look well done from outside with a charcoal colored, it was over cooked resulting in dry pieces internally and chicken that tool some effort to cut. It’s a common theme i saw in 2 other restaurants I tried in New York so could be a theme in the city. I hated it being a chicken lover. I would give it a 3. The kulfi Faluda for dessert is just pure love and full of flavors. The taste remained with me for another day. I would definitely recommend checking out this place. The locality is great too.”
“The food here is excellent, the drinks were subpar and service can be better. We went here for our son’s birthday on a rainy afternoon with reservations. We ordered butter chicken, tandoori chicken, dahi puri and naan and stuffed paranthas. We were late for our reservation but they held the table for us and they also gave Gulab jamuns for our son’s birthday which was a nice touch. All of the food items were exceptionally good; especially the chicken tandoori’s and stuffed paranthas. The drinks really disappointed; especially given the price tag. My old fashioned tasted syruppy and the lassi was disastrous. For 22$ I couldn’t finish my cocktail and that was disappointing. Overall I wouldn’t want to complain about service staff; but after automatically being charged 48$ service fee I expect much better service - including not requiring to be called on to take orders, providing cutlery, and cleanup; especially on rainy afternoons when the restaurant isn’t even busy. The desserts also could use an uplift. Overall given the price tag I expected much better service and drinks and desserts.”
