Tamarind is an Indian restaurant in the Poughkeepsie neighborhood of Poughkeepsie.
“Food: Tamarind was excellent, and now that I’m looking back at what we actually had, the meal had a lot more range than just the usual Indian restaurant order. The garlic naan was exactly what you want on the table: warm, soft, lightly charred, and perfect for dragging through the sauces. The creamy orange curry dishes were rich and comforting without feeling flat, with tender pieces of chicken and a sauce that was honestly made for the naan. The samosas were crisp and came with chutneys that added the right sweet, tangy, and herby contrast. The fried calamari was also a nice surprise. It was light, crisp, and worked really well with the creamy dipping sauce instead of feeling like a random appetizer. The noodle dish brought a different texture and a little brightness to the meal, while the paneer dish had great flavor, with the peppers and onions helping cut through the richness. The grilled chicken was another standout: juicy, well-seasoned, and charred enough to give it that real tandoori-style payoff. Everything tasted fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with care. Service: Service felt polished and attentive without being stiff. The meal moved at a good pace, and everything came out looking and tasting like it was handled properly. Summary: Tamarind feels like a nicer Indian spot that still knows how to deliver comfort. The sauces, naan, grilled chicken, samosas, and appetizers all made the meal feel memorable, and I’d definitely come back.”
“Fine dining at its best, this restaurant serves the most delicious food and deserts. The service is excellent and the atmosphere is warming. My husband and I went here for lunch and we were impressed with food and service, thank you Aman for especially taking the time to walk us through the menu and for being so helpful and welcoming. We definitely will come again. Loved the deserts!!”
“Excellent all round. Quality food and wonderful service. The lunch set is a must try, a sample of all the good things from this restaurant. Every item was prepared to perfection. The chicken was so tender. The lentils were hearty and tasty with just enough spice. Both and roti and naan were warm and fresh, and not too stodgy. We ordered a vegetarian set and a chicken set so we could swap some items. It was perfect. I’ll definitely be back for the dinner service.”
“Amazing meal at this restaurant. The decor is fantastic and the staff were very helpful, attentive and friendly. I have been to many Indian restaurants, and this was one of the tastiest Indian food we have had. We had non veg tali, fish Pampano The flavours and textures were all individual, the food cooked freshly, naan and roti was the fluffiest and freshest, the cocktail was top notch . Our server Nabin and Aman both were excellent professional , music was peaceful and relaxing., This restaurant is Such a gem in Poughkeepsie , Thank you for a great feast. Cheers 🍻”
“Poughkeepsie My better half and I visited this establishment twice ….. initially it was based on the reviews and searching for “Chole Bhature”. However the search yielded that this place served Indian Style Chinese. Now both of us grew up on Indian Style Chinese and hadn’t partaked this style for some time. So this decided it for us. We started off with a “Shakkarkandi Chat”. Shakkarkandi is basically sweet potato. This was awesome…. Seemed like the Shakkarkandi has been fried a bit - crispy on the outside but soft inside and the spices combined with the Tamarind sauce was just the right blend. Next was the Vegetarian Manchurian with Noodles. This part of the review is based on my expectation of the Vegetarian Manchurian balls in a sauce from many years ago. Tamarind’s interpretation was different but still good, not great but good. Noodles were what I had expected and vegetables / spices all worked out well. Two days later we needed a quick meal around our place of work and decided to try out the Thalis. The thalis as the pictures shows provide the variety of offerings in small bowls - we had the vegetarian and non veg with chicken. Rasam soup was very nice. Chicken tikka was also awesome - not sweet. Other vegetables and the Dal [lentils] was very good too. We had requested for a quick service which the staff did accomplish- thank you. The restaurant is very clean and the staff are impeccable. All in All a very good experience.”
