At Lingo, or 'ringo' meaning apple in Japanese (or fondly as the "Big Apple" to our owner/founder from Tokyo), come join us for our take on Japanese American food in the heart of Greenpoint at our location next to Transmitter Park. The menu, created by Chef Emily Yuen, is complemented by our cocktail program which highlights a wide range of Japanese spirits/seasonal ingredients along with our rotating global wine list.
“Limited menu items with a premium price! However, the food is good and this place indeed lives up to its hype. The beef pie is curry based and it's better to go with some kind of rice. It would be better that the dish comes with a bowl of rice instead of us ordering the premium mushroom rice. The water tastes very tappy and it's better to go with lemons 🍋.”
“Very nice atmosphere. Friendly staff. Have been going there Saturday mornings for brunch. Highly recommend the breakfast sets (gyudon and fish, both excellent). With a side of house pickles. Also incredibly tasty. Food is very homey and comforting.”
“the nicest bar staff ive ever met extremely interesting and well balanced cocktails really loved all the small plates I got and was shocked by how good the salad was. got the lingo beef pie which is plated in a really joyful kind of silly way. loved it but a bit too rich for my tastes! I recommend splitting it with several folks because eating the whole thing by yourself would be an intense (but amazing im sure) experience”
“Great restaurant with a creative mix of Japanese and American cuisine. Standout dishes included the Japanese Sweet Potato tempura, Crispy Skin Half Chicken, and the Lingo Beef Pie. The Tokyo Banana Sundae was a highlight: banana custard, dulce de leche, vanilla ice cream, served in a large glass — delicious and presented interestingly. The interior is appealing, and the staff is friendly; on our second visit, we were warmly welcomed back by the staff. However, I noticed that the dinner menu has only one cooked fish option, golden tilefish, which I avoid due to its mercury levels. It would be great to see alternatives like cod or mackerel.”
“We came here for brunch as a group of 3 and the food did not disappoint! Portions were extremely generous - sharing a single apple pancake, chicken sando, and beef pie was more than enough. Service was also attentive, but they were strangely rushing us throughout our entire meal. We stayed here for about 1 hour, which is within their time limit, but our table was cleared after 45 minutes, and the whole experience just felt extremely uncomfortable towards the end. Maybe this just happened to be an especially busy day, but this does not excuse rushing customers when their food is clearly not finished.”
