Mayahuel restaurant is a family owned business from first generation Mexican Immigrants. We are proud to gift the community of Astoria the taste of Mexican culture, from our food and crafted Mezcal & Tequila drinks.
“Impeccable food and drinks!! I am a Mexican food snob and this place blew me away!! The food, drinks, service, and ambiance were all top-level. We ordered mezcal margaritas and were immediately transported to a rooftop in Mexico - perfection! The aguachile appetizer was very, very special. We couldn’t quite pin all of the flavors because they were all so harmonious and beautiful. This was probably my favorite dish I’ve had so far this year. We also ordered the camarones appetizer - this was also crazy good. The sauce was rich and luscious - truly an elegant dish. The carnitas tacos and fabulous tres leches dessert were also stunning as well. I can’t believe I slept on this place for so long. I’ll be back soon to try more dishes but will definitely order the aguachile every time I go back, because, duh.”
“Had a really nice meal here last night. Server was really nice. Cocktails and food were great. We really loved all the sauces used in the dishes. And the Flan/tres leches desserts at the end of our meal were delicious! You can tell the kitchen puts a lot of thought into the menu.”
“Wonderfully surprised at the beautiful atmosphere, with outstanding, knowledgeable service, by Angelique, and high quality, gorgeously plated food. We came here with a groupon, but will definitely be back as regulars. Service was amazing and knowledge with great reccomendations . Creative, unique cocktails Luis-absolutely delicious! Delicious, fresh food! Will be back to try everything on menu!”
“We stumbled on Mayahuel after our first choice was closed and were glad we did. This family-run Mexican spot in Astoria focuses on northern and coastal flavors, with an emphasis on seafood. It was our first visit and the service stood out—friendly, attentive, and genuinely accommodating. Appetizer: We shared the Camarones Zarandeados. The prawns were cooked perfectly and the sauce—with guajillo butter and mole oil—lifted every bite; I found myself trying (and failing) to scoop up every last drop. Mains: The Pulpo Encacahuatado was flavorful, slightly spicy, and incredibly tender—my friend said it was the best octopus he’s ever had. The Carne Asada was also excellent, with a tender, well-textured steak. Dessert: We followed an owner’s recommendation and chose the flan. It struck the perfect balance of firmness and sweetness, finished with crunchy cacao bits that made it irresistible. A small cultural note: in Mexican tradition, Mayahuel is associated with nourishment and transformation. Overall a warm, delicious find—definitely worth a visit.”
“We had such a great time last night! The food was a surprise with its elevated simple but complex flavors. We ordered several dishes to share but honestly my favorite was the tuna tartare served with the silkiest avocado mango puree and lightly fried sweet potato chips. Highly recommend! They have happy hour which we didn't even realize till we received the bill. The drinks were really nice, you have plenty of options from the traditional to more swanky type. The staff was so friendly and our server was very attentive. It was our friend's bday and they sang and treated her to dessert. The restaurant is pretty spacious and has three different areas to sit in. It's great for large parties, they easily can slide tables together. I'm definitely going back for the tuna tartare appetizer and excited to try other dishes.”
