MOKYO, a cozy nook in the heart of the East Village, is the sister restaurant to Thursday Kitchen from Chef Kyungmin Kay Hyun. MOKYO offers an array of Asian inspired small that blend flavors from Chef Kay’s childhood and travels across Eastern Asia, Europe and South America. Understanding the inevitable loss to grandma and mom’s traditional dishes, Chef Kyungmin Kay Hyun has found a perfect balance of Asian twists and dishes from her travels to ignite nostalgic flavors yet something unfamiliar and pleasant with an Asian flare.
“i had heard a lot about this restaurant and was nervous that it was overhyped, but i actually had a great time here. casual space to catch up with friends, service was kind and attentive, every dish had matched or exceeded my expectations, and they didn't make a fuss over my friend coming late or us staying past the 90min mark as advertised. ordered the corn dumplings, oxtail spring rolls, berkshire ribs, and yellowfin crudo. the crudo was much smaller than expected but overall everything tasted good. we were skeptical of the corn dumplings since we're asian, but they ended up being our favorite dish 💛🌽”
“Mokyo is a very unique place. Every dish is a unique invention and all of it just tastes good. I haven’t had something I didn’t like and all dishes are significantly different from each other. This is the sister restaurant to Thursday Kitchen and the concept is pretty similar. Innovative dishes that represent a fusion between Korean food to everything else in the world. The main difference between Mokyo and Thursday kitchen is that Mokyo is the upscale version and you need a reservation, it is not a walk-in place. Notice that portions are pretty small and the prices are slightly expensive for the portion. It’s not going to be a cheap meal if you’re hungry. My favorite was the scallops dish which was really hard to stop eating. If I had room for an extra dish I’d had a second scallop. The gnocchi special was also very good and might be the best value for money. Lobster roll was the least value for money. Overall highly recommended.”
“Chefs at Mokyo know what they are doing. I never had Korean tapas before but I am a huge fan now. While I am not Korean, I usually hold Korean food to a high standard because I grew up in a Korean neighborhood and many of my friends were Korean, so I was constantly surrounded by — and eating — authentic cuisine. While this spot isn’t traditional, it’s absolutely worth trying. The food and service are both incredible. This place is super impressive and makes for a great experience, especially for a date night or a dinner with a friend. I wouldn’t recommend it for parties larger than two, though, since the dish portions are on the smaller side. We started with the yuzu strawberry and golden punch mocktails, which were served in adult Capri Sun-style pouches — such a fun touch! For dinner, we had the corn dumplings, oxtail spring rolls, noodles, scallops, and ragu rice. My only critique is that the spring rolls could use a bit of oil blotting before serving, so they don’t taste too much like the fryer. Other than that, every dish was delicious. The textures and sauces were spot-on. I’ll probably be thinking about the tapioca rice balls in the ragu and the mushrooms from the scallop dish for the rest of the week — seriously, so scrumptious! 10/10 recommend Mokyo!”
“Came for restaurant week 2026 - prix fixe dinner ($45 per person). Overall, food was just okay, and portions were small. Also the food took so long to come out :/ Not worth - Scallop ceviche: 6/10, wasn’t a huge fan of the sauce - Yellowtail crudo: 8/10, better than the scallop ceviche, and the sauce was yummy. The orange slices were interesting lol - Corn dumpling: 9/10, solid! Really enjoyed the corn flavor. Creamy corn filling - no kernels. Def get this! - Wagyu oxtail spring roll: 8/10, solid flavor - Octopus skewer: 7/10, octopus was tender and flavorful, but didn’t like the potatoes in the skewers. Also a little salty - Berkshire rib: 9/10, solid tender and flavorful. Def get this! - Fried rice w/ lobster: 6/10, meh - Injeolmi mousse: 9/10, very creamy and chocolatey! Def get”
“As an avid Korean food enjoyer blessed with easy access to Northern Blvd, it is to my oversight that I came with the expectation for Korean food tonight. Instead, I got truffle oil gnocchi (best dish of the night), chili with rice cake (3piece of rice cakes), bbq ribs (ribs did not fall off the bone), and a clam chowder with scallop that looks pan seared by actually just chewy. It’s not you, it’s me. I’ll try to book Moono earlier or stick to outerboro Korean food.”
