Nikutei Futago is an intimate, upscale Japanese Yakiniku restaurant in the heart of SoHo where guests may experience an indulgent celebration of the senses. Offering a la cartre menu, along a seasonal tasting menu featuring premium cuts of authentic Japanese A5 Wagyu, hand-crafted sauces and small dishes, quality is imperative at Nikutei Futago. The staff's education and authenticity are supreme, with expert handling, cutting, and presenting of the beef; all critical to the flavor and guest experience. Subtle and sophisticated design and warm, cozy spaces complement the warm and gracious service to round out a memorable evening. The restaurant’s namesake stems from Nikutei, a special space that connects the everyday and extraordinary to make for an unforgettable experience, combined with a nod to the Japanese founding Lee brothers, who are twins (Futago). Born in Osaka, Japan, the Lee brothers have developed their own unique “Futago-style” of Yakiniku and have become known for high-quality A5 Wagyu and fresh ingredients, enlivened spaces and omotenashi, the warmest hospitality you can imagine. Founded in 2010 in Tokyo, the Futago company portfolio is expansive, with a variety of concepts in more than 90 locations across Hong Kong and Japan. Nikutei Futago SoHo is the debut of the refined, upscale concept in the US. Futago’s hip, casual Yakiniku Futago restaurant has been an essential Japanese hotspot in Chelsea since May 2015.
“Excellent Yakiniku dining experience. The atmosphere was very zen and the space featured very cool Japanese aesthetic which I loved. Staff were the kindest and service was exceptional thanks to Edwin. I really enjoyed the pre-fixe menu offering and felt it was good amount of food for the 85$ pp price point (meat quality was very good) and the sushi was delicious as well. We had a very memorable experience and will most definitely be returning with friends again — Thank you !!”
“Yukiniku Futago in NYC is an amazing spot for Wagyu lovers 🥩🔥. The Wagyu beef hot pot is incredibly tender, rich, and flavorful without feeling heavy or greasy at all 😍. The vegetables, mushrooms, and tofu are super fresh and perfectly balanced 🍄🥬. The absolute highlight is the sushi 🍣✨ — it’s unbelievably delicious, so fresh and high-quality that it doesn’t even need any sauce. Every bite melts in your mouth. Definitely a must-try Japanese dining experience in NYC 🇯🇵💯”
“SoHo’s Intimate Wagyu Oasis Yakiniku Futago is an authentic upscale Japanese restaurant that serves premium A5 Wagyu beef, specializes in sukiyaki, bbq, shabu-shabu, and Wagyu tasting menu. What can I say? You will enjoy your dining experience in a serene and intimate setting, surrounded by a beautiful Japanese garden and a small waterfall. The staff here is very knowledgeable and can tell you all about their menu options - so you can decide what’s best for you to try! We fired their sukiyaki and it was divine! The meat is just superior and melting in your mouth!”
“A fun little piece of Japan. They don't have tables larger than 6 (1 room) so if you're a bigger party, you'll talk to people across or around another table. They don't have a full bar, just sake/beer and the menu is slightly different too - more sushi/sashimi dishes and the Japanese BBQ items here are still good. Dragon kalbi and the 10-second waygu were excellent. Staff was super helpful and friendly. If you were in the mood for Japanese whiskey or cocktails, though, go to their bigger location in Chelsea. They also do the stamp for the tongs.”
“We areived at 5pm dinner reservation and arrived right on time. We were literally the first table there. 1. It took about 15 minutes before anyone even came to pour water. No one checked on us at all. When they finally came over, I looked at my phone — it was already 5:18pm. 2. The heating was NOT working properly. It’s been freezing in NYC these past few days, and the restaurant was seriously cold. I ended up wearing my coat for the second half of the meal. I told the server once that it was very cold, and he just turned up the grill fire — which didn’t help at all. It’s honestly the first time in my life that I’ve eaten BBQ and felt colder and colder as the meal went on. 3. The table was greasy and the floor was dirty. You could see leftover sauce drips from previous customers on the floor. 4. The chairs didn’t even have pads on the legs, so every time someone dragged a chair it made this horrible screeching noise. Super annoying and uncomfortable. 5. The food was very average. Of course taste is subjective, but NYC has plenty of good BBQ places. This is definitely not one of them. 6. The final dessert was a matcha shaved ice. In that freezing environment? Couldn’t even eat it. 7. The pacing between dishes was way too slow. Long gaps between courses. The timing was just off. And the server had the nerve to ask at the end, “How was everything?” Honestly? Not good. Definitely won’t be coming back. This place is off my list.”
