WakuWaku + Oldies is a traditional, relaxed izakaya, or Japanese-style tavern. Our space is separated as a restaurant dining hall and bar side. We offer a menu of extensive small plates and Japanese skewers, "yakitori". This is paired with shochu and sake, beer and inventive craft cocktails from our adjacent bar, Oldies. Indoor seating includes the restaurant dining room, the bar and, for larger parties, three semi-private, Japanese-style "tatami" rooms. Seasonally, outdoor seating includes the climate-controlled dining house in our Edo-themed courtyard. “What can I say about this place. Went in for a quick meal and left with in 30 minutes. Service was great and super fast and got to me immediately. Food was cooked perfectly will come back if I’m in the area again.”
“I was visiting the Japan Village for the first time and was looking for a place to eat. Went on a Saturday afternoon and is was crowded, but I wanted a more relaxed spot to sit and eat and found this place. Food was really good. Service and atmosphere were good also. Overall it’s a nice place to eat at Japan Village if you want a more relaxed vibe.”
“My wife and I were looking for a quieter restaurant to eat at as the Japan Village was a little too crowded for us, and this place was a nice respite. The skewers were all really good, but we loved the duck one the most. The pork & scallion and chicken thigh & scallion were also highlights. The beef and pork belly were okay. My wife loved her soba, and also got the deep fried beef skewer. All in all a nice stop for food, and relatively reasonably priced!”
“I’ve been to Wakuwaku a few times and always loved the food, so I brought friends for the first time—but the service was terrible. Our Hispanic server (never introduced himself) was rude, snatched menus from our hands, and refused to accommodate a shrimp allergy with a simple substitution. He ignored us most of the night, took away our plates even though we were sharing food, and didn’t seem to know how to use the card machine. The place was clearly understaffed, and the table next to us waited 20+ minutes just to pay. Great food, but the service completely ruined the experience.”
“Terrible experience. They forgot my girlfriend’s ramen and never came by to refill our water the entire time. When we reminded them, it took another 30 minutes for her food to come out — even though other tables got theirs first. The rice was also really dry. Definitely not coming back.”
