“An excellent experience from start to end. We ordered every dish on the menu for a group of 5, and the flavors were so bold and unique. Everything was great, but some personal favorites were the goat pepper soup, the toast with mushrooms, the cabbage and the beef short rib. The staff was exceptional and very attentive. Loved the simple and minimalist atmosphere too. A strong recommend without a doubt.”
“Ordered the entire menu with no regrets. To be specific with the absolute bangers: the mushroom bread, the pepper soup, and the puff puffs. The bread and mushroom has so much flavor and should be your first stop to start your palette. The soup is POW flavor with a delicious spice. The puff puffs are lighter than they seem and the guava will have you digging at the bowl for every drop.”
“Overall rating: 4 Wow I wanted to love this place. But there were too many annoying moments for the high price. The music was way too loud for the volume of people. Like they were competing with each other. The whole place was packed which makes sense due to its popularity but there was only 1 waiter, so service was tough. In addition, I went in the winter and the door was stuck & it felt like there was no heat. So yeah, it was basically freezing. Items we ordered (group of 4x) - Pounded yam 3/5 - Plantains 5/5 - Mushroom agege 3/5 - Cabbage 5/5 - Black Jollof rice 4/5 The textures and flat taste wasn’t it for me.”
“Service was fantastic, really friendly and attentive. Vibes in the restaurant were super cute and cozy. We ordered 2 small plates, a soup, and 3 mains for a party of two (the cheese bread, moi moi, fish soup, egusi, jollof rice, and ribs). Our favorite dish was the fish soup - it was spicy and flavorful and the fish was delicious. Unfortunately the rest of the food was just okay - as others have mentioned, they appear to use the same sauce in almost all their dishes and it just leads to sort of a one-dimensional flavor profile. My other gripe is that the portions are tiny and I left hungry :( As an example, the suya spiced short rib was in fact a SINGLE RIB on a plate for 35$ which was disappointing and egregious, even for NYC. Perhaps we caught them on a bad day, but unlikely to go back.”
“A group of us had the opportunity to dine at this restaurant as part of Tasting Collective, where a pre-set menu was created to showcase the cuisine. While I understand that a tasting experience may not fully represent the regular menu, it provided a glimpse of what might be expected. One area of concern was the spacing of the restaurant. It is quite compact, which made it challenging to be comfortable throughout the meal. Despite my petite stature at 5’1”, I found it difficult to stretch my legs. We began our meal with the goat pepper soup, which was enjoyable and had a bold flavor profile, though it was quite spicy and may not have been the most suitable choice as the first dish for all guests. The subsequent dishes featured minimal meat, leading to the perception that we were enjoying a primarily vegetarian experience, which may not have aligned with everyone’s expectations given the higher price point of the tasting menu. Before dessert, we were informed that the planned “Nigerian Sweet Dough” was unavailable, and we would instead be served ice cream and caramelized plantain. It was a bit surprising that a restaurant would run out of key ingredients for a tasting menu, especially since we were the first seating of the evening and had provided an exact count in advance. While I appreciate the effort put into the dining experience, I must admit that it may not be on my list for a return visit to Brooklyn for a redo.”
