A love letter to the Basque country from chefs Alex Raij and Eder Montero, Txikito celebrates a region whose cuisine is distinguished by its understated excellence and sophisticated simplicity. Reopening its doors on Ninth Avenue in West Chelsea, Txikito has undergone an interior refresh. The restaurant's bright new design retains its casual identity, with material updates that transform the space to meet the energy of the cooking and steady evolution of the restaurant, the chefs and the neighborhood itself. Txikito continues to innovate around its pioneering legacy as New York's first distinctly Basque restaurant, capturing the many ways - from high cuisine to humble home cooking - that food is enjoyed throughout the region. With thoughtful preparations, a perfectly paired wine list and cocktails worth seeking out, Txikito honors its own tradition of playfully recasting Basque classics in a convivial and warm atmosphere that is uniquely New York.
“Loved the white asparagus from their seasonal menu. The flavor, the layers, and texture, just incredible!! Fried shrimp was such a fun appetizer, super crispy and flavorful. The mayonnaise sauce has a hint of yuzu flavor to it. The combo is just very summertime.”
“Our server Hrvoje was absolutely amazing, really elevated the whole experience. The food was great as well. The only downside was with the kitchen handoff from the Asian lady. I understand it gets busy, but having plates and utensils dropped onto the table every single time really kills the vibe”
“Txikito was an incredible experience. Everything on the menu was so good. We had the steak, which was a sizable portion for four people and really, really good. The sommelier knew what they were doing and offered a great pairing. The dessert was incredible. Both the Bossk cake and the Ruso meringue puffs were incredible and worth ordering. The white bean soup was also to die for, and the succulent pig was so good. Overall, everything on the menu was worth trying again and worth going back for. It was really, really good. If you are in Chelsea, you should definitely try this.”
“Was amazing ambience and food. So many favorites and even the kids enjoyed the octopus, the oyster mushroom, pig suckling and the fish! Don’t wait to try it out. The cocktails were great- not too sweet - just the way I like it!”
“Food was good overall, but nothing really stood out. Pork was good (super crispy on the outside and really soft inside). The Arroz was decent, nothing too standout, but I do wish it had more seafood in it. The octopus carpaccio was good as expected, and the cheesecake was honestly so tasty. It was super thick, rich, and not overly sweet at all!”
