Jaffa Bar is a two-story oyster bar inside a 19th century firehouse located in Olde Kensington. The restaurant design takes a cue from the sunlit hues of the architecture of its namesake, the port city of Jaffa — a coastal Israeli city that for thousands of years has welcomed the world through its port. The dinner menu at Jaffa Bar features a combination of oyster bar classics, Israeli-inflected seafood preparations and timeless bar-food. The Jaffa cocktail bar offers an extensive menu of drinks befitting a proper Philadelphia bar, plus those with influence from Jaffa’s citrus-rich Mediterranean coast such as the “Frozen Jaffa Orange” — a creamy, orange blossom-scented riff on the Orange Julius.
“Located in Fishtown in Philly, this gem is awesome. It's two floors with great vibes. The first floor bar has tvs for watching games, while upstairs is more of just dining. The food is awesome. The wings are in an awesome sauce that is unique and full if flavor. Great steak, cooked perfectly, good crab cakes, big meaty ribs, the trout was delicious. Save room for the desserts...and don't forget the delicious cocktails. Service was superb.”
“Love the ambiance and architecture. The interior design I think really enhances the architecture of the building. Good recommendations from Jamie and Evan! Was very nice of them to split the check for us! Food and Drinks Highlights: Wavelength Oyster-Fresh, juicy, good chew, good meat Sand dune oyster-salty in a natural way. Green-Eyed Lady: great drink. Love the kick of spicy but it’s not too much. A mix of refreshing and fun cocktail highly recommended”
“Nice little spot, with nice energy. It can be a little tight inside, but given the shape of the building, it's to be expected. Though some people say the portions are small, I felt they were adequate and not dissimilar to say Bastia. I'm not a huge oyster person, but the recommendations were very good, especially paired with the zhug. Everyone we interacted with was lovely, but we were especially appreciative of Jordan, who gave us the majority of our recommendations. We ate: - psychedelicate - stony shore - bad boys - broccolini caesar - yellowtail pastrami - crispy butterflied trout - baby back ribs”
“The service was amazing! It was also their first year birthday, which coincide with my birthday, and I don’t know about it. They were super nice to give us a ceviche and those little cupcakes with the candle for my birthday. Our servers and bartenders were super friendly and personable. we enjoyed our time definitely gonna be back. They have a special menu for birthday, which is a great price quality.”
“I saw their burger featured on a FB Reel and wanted to try it. It was super easy making a Sunday night reservation with two days notice which is kind of surprising for a Solomonov restaurant and was super excited. We arrived and were seated very quickly. My wife and I ordered drinks and then decided to do their pre fixe dinner for two. It’s two apps, two entrees, and one dessert for $80. My wife got the shrimp cigars and I ordered the persimmon salad. They were out of persimmon but they were able to substitute in Avocado. Both apps came quickly and were really good. For entrees, my wife ordered salmon and I ordered the burger. We received our food and while my burger was hot, my wife’s salmon was lukewarm at best. We don’t normally complain but at a restaurant like this we did feel like we could bring it up to our waitress. She did fully understand and very quickly had the kitchen refire the dish. She was super apologetic about it and they ended up comping the entree for us - without us asking! While waiting for the salmon to come out, my wife’s and I split the burger. The burger itself was perfect. Highly recommend. When we received the second firing of the salmon, it was surprisingly still tepid. The waitress mentioned that it’s a new dish and it could possibly just be the way the dish is served but she would be surprised if that was the case. Even still, the salmon dish was superb. Easily the best fish I’ve had in years. For dessert we split the passion fruit bar. Think key lime pie’s less tart cousin - very good. All in all I felt like this was a good restaurant concept having an off night. The one lukewarm salmon dish was an outlier but everything else was absolutely amazing. The service, like the rest of Solomonov’s restaurants was great. I am surprised the restaurant wasn’t packed on a Sunday as one would expect. I’ll keep this place in mind for out of town guests.”
