Laser Wolf is an Israeli grill, a pillar of Israeli life and known in Hebrew as a "shipudiya" or "skewer house". The kitchen is led by executive chef Andrew Henshaw, a longtime culinary collaborator with co-owners Michael Solomonov and Steve Cook. Andrew has spent many years mastering the flavors and techniques of Israeli cuisine at Zahav, most recently as Chef de Cuisine. Named after "Lazar Wolf", the butcher in the iconic Jewish musical Fiddler on the Roof, the center of Laser Wolf's universe is the charcoal grill, an ancient and pure cooking style that intensifies the flavor of its subjects.
“We had a 5:30 reservation and were excited to learn that fell during happy hour. Happy hour included half price a la carte menu and 10$ cocktails/wine and 5$ beers. We had the fois gras with pistachio and blueberry, halloumi with figs and hazelnut, tuna tartar with horseradish, pickles and labneh and fries with tehina ketchup from the a la carte menu. Everything came out super quick but with small break between plates so we weren't overwhelmed with plates. The salatim with pitas easily would be enough for starters but we wanted the full experience. We also ordered the sirloin shishlik and koobideh. The sirloin was super tender. It was cut similar to kebabs. The koobideh was excellent. We finished with one of each dessert. Brown sugar vanilla soft serve with strawberry apricot and pistachios. This one was tart and sweet but nicely balanced. The other was the Tehina soft serve with hard chocolate shell. The tehina is more savory and rich. Both were excellent. We also ordered a pita and hummus to go for 14$ great deal. Came with a 1lb deli container of hummus and 4 pitas.”
“To the amazing staff at Laser Wolf, we want to express our sincere gratitude! Today, we celebrated Rebecca’s promotion at Tastemade, and while we are enjoying a day off from caring for our three-year-old, we have to thank Grandma for all her help to make this day possible. From the moment we stepped inside and left, we had an unforgettable experience. We were warmly welcomed by the friendly staff at the front, guided through a delightful culinary journey while sitting at the chef’s counter, and delighted by the delicious food we had been craving. Every team member we spoke with was a pleasure to chat with. Now, let us give a huge shoutout to our amazing server, Molly. Molly was not just our server; she was the captain of our culinary adventure. Molly truly wowed us. She was delightful to talk to, learn from, and enjoy a meal with as she expertly managed everything. Thank you for a wonderful night out, a much-needed escape. We’re already looking forward to our next visit to Philly!”
“Riley K was the best server we’ve had at a restaurant in a while, we basically let him order for us and he hit it out of the park. It would be wise to request him if you can. His knowledge and passion for the food is exceptional. He certainly made the experience one to remember. The Dorade was amazing, the skirt steak also incredible. The brown sugar ice cream is 10/10. Not a single thing hit our table that we weren’t 100% impressed with. The after dinner drink he suggested was perfect. Monte negro or something I can’t remember but it’s wonderful. He will take care of you.”
“honestly a little disappointed in the food — although it looked impressive, the flavoring was just hit or miss. food: salatim always looks so impressive — 11 spread options so you have to like at least one, right?! pita was cooked well, pillowy and a great vehicle for the dips. the main we got were the: - swordfish skewer ($49) 3/5 tender, fun chewy kind of rubbery texture which was new. minimal flavor. - lamb rack ($124) 4/5 delicious! def the best, cooked very well and seasoned well! - hanger steak ($122) 3/5 anna hated the bbq-like sauce it came with but I thought it was ok. cooked alright, a bit chewy and aside from the sauce drench the flavor was minimal too. they gave us free fries for my birthday! very crispy, airy. 4/5! soft serve was good, not memorable service: excellent! erik was amazing 5/5 atmosphere: it was beautiful! a fun, upscale but still casual place.”
“⭐️⭐️⭐️ (3/5) We really wanted to like Laser Wolf. With a new baby at home, nights out are rare, so we hoped this would be a special one. The setup overlooking the kitchen seemed fun at first, but the fixed chairs made it awkward to get in and out. The menu also isn’t as straightforward as it looks — “Salatim included” is confusing, and even after dining, it’s not 100% clear how it all works. Our server Eddy was helpful in explaining, but overall it feels like you’re paying for a bundle of food, much of which you may not want. We ordered the sirloin shishlik ($52 for ~8oz) and the merguez. The meats were good but not worth the price. The salatim spread is plentiful, but I only took a few home (hummus, Lebanese potato salad, lutenitsa). Fries were easily the best dish of the night, the wings were tasty but messy with no wet nap provided, and the halloumi was very good. Dessert is included — we got both soft serve and sorbet — but again, it felt like cost buried in the mains rather than a bonus. Eddy was kind and attentive, but the overall value just isn’t there. $50+ entrees paired with forced sides and dessert doesn’t add up, especially in a city with so many options. Glad we tried it, but unlikely to return. Pros • Attentive and kind service (thanks, Eddy) • Fries and tehina ketchup were excellent • Halloumi and wings were solid • Dessert included (soft serve + sorbet, thanks again Eddy) Cons • Confusing menu structure • Overpriced mains ($50+ for 8oz steak) • Too many “included” sides you may not want • No wet nap for messy wings • Overall poor value compared to other Philly spots”
