Although not in its current form, Wm. Mulherin's Sons has been around since the 19th century. Its name remains unchanged from the family-owned whiskey distillery that once occupied the Fishtown space, but the industrial aesthetic has been morphed into an unabashedly sexy restaurant complete with dark wood, exposed brick, and gold accents. It's decidedly cool and yet, still — the food is the star of the show. The kitchen dishes out expertly charred pizzas from its wood burning oven, pastas that'll entice you to lick your plate clean, plus an array of flavorful small plates and large format dishes. To top it off: the cocktails here are expertly crafted, so be sure to try one.
“Good drinks, great food & pet friendly!! Honestly? This place has it all. The grilled octopus is an absolute must-order — don't even think about skipping it. Pair it with one of their cocktails and you've got yourself a proper evening. The outdoor seating is pet-friendly which makes the whole vibe even better — good food, good drinks, and your furry mate by your side. What more do you need? Pro tip: book a table if you're going on a weekend — it's popular for a reason and walk-in waits can be real.”
“Wm. Mulherin’s Sons is an absolute must-visit for brunch! The food was fantastic from start to finish. We started with the Yellowtail Crudo, which was incredibly light and flavorful. The Ricotta Bomboloni were a total standout—they honestly could have been dessert! They had an amazing texture and a lovely hint of orange. For our mains, both the Spaghetti Pomodoro and the Mezze Maniche Carbonara were executed to perfection. If you're looking for high-quality pasta and a great atmosphere, this is the spot.”
“By far one of the best dining experience we’ve had. Food, drinks and service was amazing. The scallops were delicious, calamari was full of flavor. But the Foccaccia is AMAZING!!! Spicy jawn pizza was spicy but delicious. Carbonara pasta was very good. Now the dessert, the tiramisu was delicious the panacotta may not be fore everyone but it was delicious. Overall 5/5”
“Great experience here! Beautiful dark mahogany wood serves up a classy vibe! This modern Italian joint serves up some delicious thin style pizzas and a great range of cocktails. We started with the grilled charred octopus and man was this a flagship dish! Huge tender and juicy octopus perfectly charred with a crunchy exterior yet soft interior! Paired with a delicious pesto arugula, this could have and should have been my meal! We got the Downtown abbey pizza and the Spicy Jawn pizza! The spicy jawn was way better, the sauce was tangy yet had a kick to it and was loaded with spicy meats! The downtown abbey was tasty yet, not standout. The focaccia itself was tasty but the ricotta whip could have used a bit more salt or seasoning!”
“Food was mediocre and made without love. Atmosphere is amazing. Ordered: Radicchio Salad Tagliatelle Lamb Ragu Sweet Jawn Pizza Radicchio salad was pretty good and tasteful, but the presentation of the dish was dreadful. The radicchio was too large of chunks, our garnish was all on one side of the plate and on one radicchio leaf. Salad had appropriate amount of dressing, but wasn't tossed in the dressing or it was sitting out for too long because it pooled at the bottom. Tagliatelle was quite disappointing. There’s too much thyme on that plate. Too much thyme. So much herb on there it completely overpowers the rest of the plate. Also it says it’s a "ragu," but it really seems like a few chunks of sausage with a vodka sauce. Pizza was decent and made well, no complaints. None of our food came out hot which seemed off, like it wasn’t even sitting under a heat lamp. Seems like presentation from the kitchen needs an overhaul. Expo or head chef isn't looking at the dishes before they're sent out. The clumps of gremolata on the Tagliatelle is pathetic. Portion sizes are okay, on the smaller size. 1 app, 2 entrees is barely enough for 2 people. The prices for the plates are about good. Came to ~$140 for 2 people, yikes. Drinks were pretty good. Atmosphere is amazing. We were on the patio, so we didn’t get to see too much inside but everywhere you look is eye candy. I don’t recommend going here for food, but it is an amazing place to enjoy with friends.”
