Elma, located on Fishtown's east side at 431 E. Girard Ave, delivers Italian flavors with an Experiemental New American approach by Chef James Nardone.
“Wow! What a dining experience! We arrived on time but had to wait for our seat availability ( chef seating). We were cheerfully greeted by the Chef/owner upon our entrance. The food is freshly prepared in an open kitchen. Every menu item is made fresh on the spot! We tried to order everything on the menu it was that good! Seating is tight but it’s worth the dining experience!”
“My wife and I absolutely love Elma. Chef/owner James consistently puts out incredible Italian food at reasonable prices compared to others in the neighborhood, and the BYOB always makes it even better. Him and his staff are always attentive and genuinely cares about the diners—you can feel it every time you’re there. We’ve been treated wonderfully on each visit, have come back multiple times, and are already looking forward to our next meal. A true neighborhood gem.”
“This was one of our most memorable dinners of 2025 so far — everything we ordered was delicious. We started with the marinated tomatoes with stracciatella and the focaccia, then had the Thai basil tagliatelle with crab and the breaded pork chop as mains, and finished with the corn brûlée and blueberry pâte à choux for dessert. The marinated tomatoes with the focaccia were an excellent pairing, and the tagliatelle was a surprisingly delightful fusion — spicy, flavorful, and very well balanced. The pork chop was excellent too: juicy and flavorful, though slightly undercooked near the bone. The corn brûlée was fantastic, while the pâte à choux was the only dish that didn’t quite hit the mark. Overall, the food was outstanding and the space was very cozy. Our only wish was for slightly better ventilation in the restaurant, but otherwise, it was an amazing dining experience.”
“Stunning thoughtful delicious food with improvable friendly service and an intimate vibe. Each course was well planned and explained with ingredients that were chosen with intention. The small space never felt small but did feel intimate and cozy. If there is an additional course available I would highly recommend indulging.”
“Had dinner here for the first time and was excited to try out this hidden gem based on its good reviews. The food, service, and ambience were great! We did the “all in” option where you can pick 7 of the dishes from their menu or have them pick for you with dessert at the end. We opted to pick a few and leave the rest as a surprise. Wish we just picked all 7 because the surprise options that were selected for us were the cheapest on their menu making what we paid for the “all in”, which is $90 per person, not exactly worth it. The portions are regular sized (we were told), but you’re basically just sharing 7 plates from the à la carte with a set price. It would be worth it if you picked their priciest items, but since we ended up with their two cheapest items (as chefs choice), we essentially got charged more than if we had just gone with à la carte. So the reason for my 3 star rating is due to my feeling sort of scammed? Otherwise, food, service, and ambience were good, and it’s BYOB.”
