More Perreca's Italian Kitchen

“I've always wanted to visit More Perreca's on Jay St. I've heard so much about the restaurant and especially the bakery, Perreca's, located right next door. The businesses are located a couple of blocks from the gateway marking the entrance to Schenectady's Little Italy. So much history, food and romance in this neighborhood. We had Sunday brunch at More Perreca's. The bakery is closed on Sunday but I got a Sausage Lettuce Tomato sandwich served on toasted Perreca's bread. It was so delish. The Italian sausage was served with lettuce, tomato, roasted garlic puree, mayo and side salad. Everything was so fresh. My $11 meal was reasonably priced. The garlic purée was amazing. They need to bottle it. I'd buy some. My friend had the Mac and cheese and an espresso martini. He loved both. Rachelle was our server. She was wonderful. Very helpful. She explained some of the menu to me because there were a number of Italian sausage dishes. The food was prepared quickly which was great because we were hungry. Rachelle came back later to check on us. I gave her a thumbs up and a smile while busily chewing a bite of sandwich. The restaurant is charming with nice tin ceilings and big windows to let the light in. There are many booths which makes it cozy. When we arrived most of the tables were full. Reservations recommended. Based on the chatter in the room it sounded as though a lot of friends had gathered at the restaurant to literally break bread over brunch. The menu offers a nice variety: from egg breakfasts, assorted salads to Italian classics. It was an all around yummy and enjoyable experience. I let Rachelle know that we'll be coming back.”

“We traveled from NC for Christmas and my inlaws 33rd wedding anniversary. Unfortunately, we had to come earlier because my FIL had a strome. He was sent to Sunnyview Rehab and since he had no dietary restrictions, we were able to get Perrecas takeout. The food was AMAZING and while the atmosphere was not the restaurant view, the takeout presentation was amazing. Thank you for being kind and generous. God bless ya'll and Merry Christmas”

“I had lunch at 2:30 on a friday. The architecture and people of the place is what I was looking for. The old crowd the tin ceilings the music it was me. The server was attentive and was able to full fill my request within the scope of my request. This was my first time eating there and I had the spaghetti and meat balls with garlic bread. The spaghetti was cooked perfectly and the sauce was tasty but I felt it didn't have that special old Italian flavor. Maybe it was missing the arm hair. The meatballs were big but a bit too soft for me. Overall a fine experience. The food is only 3 star rated due to me having only eaten the 1 dish so far.”

“We didn't enjoy the meal here. The garlic bread was less than famous. (That's what it says on the menu) If you're going to claim fame it better be darn good! Our shared Cesar salad was just ok.My husband enjoyed the spaghetti and meatballs but my chicken marsala was terrible. Watered down, no seasoning at all. It tasted like they added brown gravy to the marsala sauce. Without going into any detail, they really need to put a little more effort into cleaning. I will say that the waitress was friendly and attentive.”

“We have been here multiple times and never have had a bad time until tonight. After tonight, we may never return. We had reservations for 5pm and were told we would have the table until about 8 pm. We have always had a phenomenal time here, and have always been left with service and food that made us want to come back for more. But tonight, when we put in our cocktail orders the waitress came back to tell us they didn’t have the ingredients to make a limoncello spritz, a basic Italian cocktail. So we then put in a different drink order for peronis, listed on the drink menu given after being informed they couldn’t make a limoncello spritz…we were then told they were out of that as well. We were told a lot of the resources have been taken by the sister restaurant and that is why they were out of so many things. After a while the waitress attempted to take our third round of drink orders. We had to ask them what they had in stock. Directly after our order of drinks we were asked what we would like to eat. We told her we were going to take things slow as we had the table until 8pm and ordered salads for our appetizers. For our mains we ordered pasta. Both our salads and pastas came out at the same time. It made the experience and meal feel very rushed. We were trying to have a nice cocktail (probably multiple) and meal before our show at Proctors, as we were told we would have the table for a couple hours from when our reservation started. We’ve done this on a Saturday show night and have had a spectacular time. Instead we were rushed though our meals, and the waitress only ever took our drink and food orders then never came back. We were left with water glasses that ran dry and empty wine glasses. Never checked on to refill. We then had to wait forever for the check. All in all, a restaurant that we had planned to spend a lot of money at in appetizers, cocktails, entrees, and dessert made us feel so rushed and invaluable that we finished our dinners and left. We don’t know if we will be back after this disappointing experience. We have always had a wonderful time in the past and it’s sad to see a Schenectady institution be subpar, In my mind Perreca’s is synonymous with the good of Schenectady. My fear is after tonight that is no longer a positive connotation.”
