ShoMon Kappo Sushi, opening in September near Shiro's Sushi, will offer a refined Kappo dining experience with a Seattle twist. This 26-seat restaurant blends traditional Kappo cuisine with local Washington ingredients and premium seasonal items from Japan. Guests seated at the 14-seat chef’s counter can enjoy watching the chefs prepare their dishes right in front of them. The multi-course menu, featuring items like wagyu with lotus root and Golden Eye snapper in dashi, is artfully presented. ShoMon’s elegant interior and curated selection of sake and wine promises a sensory-rich, immersive dining experience.
“What a lovely place this is. This is my second time dining here. What was most special about my most recent visit, was that the staff recalled our names, and the occasion from the earlier visit. This touch was nice. Now onto the best part, the food. My dinner tonight was 8 courses. The food and flavors here are something close to magical. Never have I had chutoro that melts in your mouth like it does here. On some of the pieces of sashimi they put on jelly flakes that has been marinated, as do the sauce level is controlled evenly. On some, zest of citrus is also added. The atmosphere is very intimate, especially if you sit at the counter. As the chef will tell you about the dish, and even take a selfie with you too. All and all, this place is incredible. Definitely check it out.”
“Had an absolutely amazing time here with a small group of 3 at the bar. I'd say that's probably the limit for a good experience at the sushi bar if you want to talk to everyone in the group from a single parallel seating. To start, really enjoyed the sake menu with some truly unique and tasty sake options and the staff were able to help navigate depending on palette and preference. The fish as you would expect were all excellent and all unique. A perfectly sized meal to not overindulge.”
“Service: 5/5. The staff makes you feel like family. They are incredibly friendly, and will explain every dish to you. Truly amazing service! Food: 5/5. The menu is very unique, which I really enjoyed. Although not entirely traditional, they add a really great twist to omakase by providing a good variety of hot dishes, appetizers, and nigiri. The fish is complimented very well by the small additions, rather than having the fish overpowered by adding too much to it. A lot of care and experience is put into their menu and it shows. Overall I highly recommend this place. The food alone is reason to go, but the service and unique menu really make ShoMon shine. I would put them up there with the best omakase I've had across the US.”
“The dining experience was excellent. The server treated us with great hospitality and consistently asked for feedback on each course. They also provided detailed introductions before each dish, explaining how the chef prepared it and the concept behind it. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for high-quality Japanese cuisine.”
“The restaurant is tucked away in a quiet residential neighborhood and features a decent-sized counter seating area (カウンター席). The service was excellent—friendly, attentive, and informative. However, the food didn’t quite meet our expectations. It leaned more toward fusion-style Japanese cuisine rather than traditional flavors. While we did enjoy a few of the dishes, others didn’t quite hit the mark for us in terms of taste. Because of that, we decided to take one star off our rating. Overall, it felt more like a one-time experience rather than a place we’d return to regularly.”
